Couple of questions regarding G82 M4...

Hey guys, I’m considering getting into This last gen of m4 (had every other m3/m4 before). I’m having hard time finding info on following things:

1. Which m4 models came with center exit exhaust? Was it an option or is it trim specific?

2. The carbon buckets… are they an option also, or did they come standard with any models?

3. Which m4 models are available in manual?

4. Lastly, other than upgraded iDrive of 24+, is there anything else that’s “better” in it than 21-23 models?

I’m considering getting a manual m4… preferably competition… sorry if these were newbie questions… but I tried searching and reading and it throws some info from 2020 but it doesn’t seem up to date.

Thanks!

1: the center exhaust is the m performance exhaust, an option that is installed at the port, you can option it on the m4 base, comp and comp x drive , not available on the csl model

2: the carbon buckets are an option, they were 3800 for the 2021 model and 4500 for 22 and newer cars, you can option them out on any model, except the m4csl, which came standard with the carbon buckets and had an option for more extreme bucket seats

3: only the standard M4 model comes in manual also known as the M4 “Base”

4: if going with the manual there is not much difference between the 25 and older model besides the lights the smoother/better idrive 8.5 and the m stitching on the manual shift knob, I have a 24 M3 base and preferred the look of the laser lights

Any other questions let me know

M Performance Exhaust is like $9k and super overpriced, without much of a change in sound. If you want to spend it for the looks...that's on you but it's really overpriced IMO.

Technically the CSL default was race buckets and regular power carbon buckets were an option. Unfortunately, many dealers selected the ‘option’ cause they like checking boxes.

Sorry, one more dumb question... As far as the years are concerned... I've always, kind of, avoided the first year model... e46's and e92's had the Rod Bearing issues... f82 had that crank hub crap... is there something going on with the G series?

Would there be a reason to avoid 2021 models? I know that the 2024 have that giant screen with the new iDrive... but since i'm only considering a manual (which now i've learned doesn't come with that many options), is there something to watch out for?

Thanks again!

I picked up my G82 M4CX in Jan 2022 and haven’t had any issues with it whatsoever over 23.5k miles apart from:

- Steering wheel wasn’t centred correctly when I picked it up (seems quite common on BMWs in general)
- Some sqeaking from the drivers seat (carbon buckets) when set at a certain height

Other than that it hasn’t put a foot wrong!

You can get the manual with just about every option as the competition. Remote start off the top of my head is the only option (in executive package) missing.

As far as issues, nothing so far but it's too early to tell.

The S58 has pretty much fixed all the issues of all past engine predecessors of the inline 6. It’s finally what it should have been to begin with in my opinion.

I have been tracking my G82 frequently for almost 3 years now, so much heavier wear than daily driving, and I haven't had a single issue. These cars are as well constructed and robust as anything on the market, and that includes the ones that cost a whole lot more.

My car (6MT M3) was the first one delivered in my metro in March of 2021 and I've had zero issues with it over 18k miles and 3 years. That's just one car but there hasn't been any loud noise about first-year problems. The only downside to 2021 cars is that AWD wasn't available yet on the Competition models. For Manual cars, the model year only matters for the interior screens, really.

The one big concern folk have right now is across all the years, and that's the exposed oil cooler under the front of the car. The F8x M3, M4, and M2C all had the oil cooler in the same place and it was never a wide-spread issue...just catastrophic for the few that get unlucky. Many people are adding protectors to the oil cooler for peace of mind (I have one on the way to me despite never having an issue with it on my M2C or my current M3).

There are multiple very long threads about the oil cooler. It looks like a more scary problem than it is (again, except for the couple of unlucky folk).
