"sell like crazy" is probably a pretty dramatic overstatement. But I would have bought one, even if it meant giving up my third pedal.

I'm with you on buying one, but not at the expense of my third pedal. My dream BMW would be a manual G81, which clearly will never, ever happen -- in Europe let alone the USA.

I would LOVE an M3 Touring. I think they look so cool and i think the body style fits the front grill really really well. I'm not an older guy (38) but i've always loved performance wagons. Had a 2004 Bugeye WRX Wagon for a few years and loved that car. My friend loves his Mazda 3 Turbo which even though they call a hatchback, it looks more like a wagon than it does a hatchback.
I also LOVE hatchbacks as they are the next best option. I've had a Fiesta, Fiesta ST, Focus ST, GTI, Golf R and Veloster N. I'm definetly the kind of buyer that would snag an M3 Touring or AMG A45S instantly if they were sold here in the US. I do realize i'm a pretty small niche, but i'd say i have the purchase history to show that i do actually love Hatchbacks/Wagons. I actually honestly believe the reason why Wagons dont sell well in the US is because we dont have enough performance variants at different price points. As some said there is the RS6 Avant, but you're dishing out 6 figures for that. Same goes with the Taycan Cross Turismo(a car i hope to get one of these days). I feel like if we had more performance variants that kept pace with the SUV market, we would have seen more wagons. Hatchbacks i can understand why dont do so well. Americans just dont like small cars and it's the enthusiast market that keeps it somewhat alive. But even a car as great as the Veloster N only got 3 years of production before it was replaced with the Elantra N. Pity too as that was actually one of the most fun cars i've ever owned and would have loved to see it evolve. |

The whole wagon thing in the states is very circular "Noone buys them" but also, noone sells them. Enthusiasts clearly have a taste for wagons as each of the notable recent ones have had their own unique superlatives:
CTS wagon- V models outsold regular ones RS6- commands big ADM's and are selling above sticker even used E63 Wagon- Highest net worth owners of any model Even the Volvo V60 wagon is only available as the "Polestar/Recharge" version and is basically sold out. I had a F31 wagon and it was a FANTASTIC car, drove great, had excellent visibility, and gave me the flexibility to make a Home Depot run or go on a road trip with 2 kids and actually enjoy the drive. The problem was that they offered the 2 lowest engines in that car which definitely hurt it's appeal to enthusiasts, and also in comparison to the X3 which could be had with either of the "35" engines of the era. Unfortunately, in the US, the economic case probably just isn't there, they would have to federalize the platform for what is already a relatively niche model for them (G8X) and then it would likely mostly cannibalize sales of higher volume G8X models or domestically made X3/X5M's that have higher margins. Chalk me up as someone who would buy a G81 over a G80 any day, but also someone who knows it's NEVER going to happen. |

Can you elaborate on this about T? I have been eyeing a 911 for a while but can't pull the trigger mainly due to outrageous ADM. I can't get over the fact that G80 M3 has 473 HP and I have to get to 911 GTS to get to 473 HP where the price is more than double! T is an interesting choice but it is less than 400 HP...

To be fair, I don’t have a G80. I have a X3MC and a M340 though. However, I’ve driven a G80 probably 5 times. The T without a doubt, but there’s not a ton of space in it. The frunk is big, but grocery shopping big not Home Depot big. I think a 991 CT and a G80 X-drive would make a killer combo. I’m biased, but a X3MC and a 911 CT make an even better combo. As I said before, the T experience is way more engaging and raw than anything a G80 could ever provide.
