That sucks! Always happens when you are extra cateful too. Depending on how bad/deep the scuff is you maybe able to have it buffed out. Take it to a reputable shop and see what they say.

Unless they are offering you a side piece(trying not to sound crass) 2500 to fix that!!! No way. Not sure what car you had previously, maybe this car is wider? Maybe you are still getting used to the driving dynamics? Can’t say you are doing something wrong since I wasn’t at the scene of the I incident. Hope your car luck turns around and you enjoy your car in good health.

Thank you and appreciate your reply bro. I have a portable steardy outdoor garage type of thing, in Cali, it was super windy today, one of the metal rods seems like it crashed into it. I am super careful but this was totally out of my hands. I’m just like wtsf

Ehh marginal. I think you'd still have some paint damage even with PPF.

I was going to comment and ask if you had PPF. It’s hard to say without a doubt if it would have completely prevented damage, but if the damage here is superficial enough, which it looks to be, my answer is yes.

I’ve seen cars scrape their fenders on cement parking lot bollards pretty significantly and the PPF took the damage without jeopardizing the underlying clear coat and paint. It was ridiculously impressive.

With that said, that’s just my opinion. I’m also biased because my M3 has full body PPF, but what you experienced is why I decided to go that route. For the cost of the PPF though, you could also get a brand new paint job, so pick your poison.

I empathize with you though. I can appreciate the frustration. Get the damaged fixed and look into PPF (even if it’s just partial coverage).

My trusted guys at the collision center I work with are absolutely the best, I’ve had very bad experiences with collision centers in the past, and these guys seem to me. They’re the best at what they do fully confident in their ability to fix the issue to where it looks as close to perfection as possible however, This is getting extremely expensive

I feel you, brother. It sounds like you’re in good hands, but that would frustrate the heck out of me too.

Sorry man! Been in this situation a bunch of times so I can relate. I would suggest getting your car PPF’d after this is repaired. It should be about $2k for the entire front end. You mentioned that you’re about 5 grand into paint repair after this fender damage. That cost is about the cost of an entire car wrap with PPF.

I personally think PPF would’ve minimized this most recent damage. Typically shops will discount a replacement piece if you run into situations in the future. PPF saved me from having to get paintwork done on an original paint 1990 911 with 22k miles on it.

Good luck with the repair and it will be good as new soon.. Ask the body shop to paint your reflectors while it’s in there.

Edit: you posted additional pics when I was writing my message, I didn’t realize the extent of the dents. PPF would’ve minimized or totally stopped the paint from being broken. You still would’ve had to get the PPF replaced and some PDR work.

At this point, you may as well just crash the other side, so it will match. Im glad I have all of the parking electronic options, my car wont even let me get within 12 inches of even a trash can, before the car just stabs on the brakes, and wants to put you through the windshield.

And PPF would have most definitely helped. Not smashing the fender, but with anything paint related. This is how the PPF went, and the clean pic is after the PPF was removed. No other work done to it.

Based on your photo, PPF would have most likely prevented the damage to your paint. I've seen these films protect against much worse. Considering the additional $2,500 you'll now need to spend on repainting that fender, you've already covered 70% of what a full PPF job would cost. It really becomes a no-brainer for these frozen colored cars when you factor in the cost of repainting a panel.

They took care of all the rock chicks etc it had while it was in their care theses guys are like fam and are extremely competent and professional when it comes to their business partners etc. The issue I have with ppf is, as a tech myself, I’ve seen lambos Ferraris etc with PPF in the beginning, however after a couple years, when they want to get it removed for whatever reasons it seems like the PPF clings on from the sun or whatever and it looks horrible and from their experience was not worth it. They they would have rather had it repaired in due time. With that said I really don’t know how valuable it is or isn’t.
