What happens to the price if your order gets bumped to next model year?
I am thinking about ordering a new M3 in Individual San Marino Blue. We are up against the end of MY21 production (June 2021) and adding an Individual option would likely push my car into MY22 (July 2021 and later).
Would BMW charge me (and my dealer) the MY22 price for the car or honor the MY21 price the applied when the order was placed even if it gets produced as a MY22?

Is MY22 getting a significant price increase?

I looked back at the M3 price guides since 2005 - BMW increases the base price about $1,000 per year. Here's the base price for a M3 sedan since 2005 in nominal dollars. (In real, inflation-adjusted dollars, the M3 hasn't really changed in price since 2005.)

You absolutely will get bumped to a 2022MY if going individual at this point. You will also be tied to the 2022 order guide and prices, however, it would be up to the dealership if they choose to keep you at the 2021 pricing or not. Effectively giving you a discount on the 2022 if otherwise agreed to MSRP previously.

I'm pretty sure an allocation is tied to a model year and model (e.g. base vs comp). If the allocation is for a MY21 I don't think it can be "bumped" into a MY22.
I'd also be surprised if dealers are sitting on any MY21 allocations that haven't been turned into orders yet. |
