I have a friend who, back around 2000, picked up a GSXR 1000 and rode it over an hour home with temps in the high 20s and snow falling. He definitely regretted that decision.

Driving a nice, comfy, warm car home in the rain? Cakewalk.

The traction control in my G83 is so well done that I can drive this torque beast in any weather condition. If your worry is about others my only suggestion is to say that is what insurance is for. If I was in your shoes I would not leave it with the dealer longer than necessary. Safe travels!

I failed to take into account the accuracy(or lack of) of weather forecasts. As of this morning, they have downgraded the chances of rain to 90% and added "Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm mainly after 11am"

Guess this mean I need to get there early and show up an hour before they open. (originally told the CA that I would be there around noon)

you're suggesting that I cancel my car and order a Tesla instead? (they deliver to the driveway, even if you're not home... in the case of my friend, the Tesla delivery driver opened the garage using a provided code and parked it in her garage while she was not even home)

I'm currently out of town. I told him that I would go there on Friday to take delivery. They are my nearest BMW dealer and it's 5-hour roundtrip. I just looked at the weather forecast. Pouring rain all day on Friday, up to 2 inches of rain with 30mph winds.

Is it a good idea to take delivery of a brand new Bimmer(or any car) when it's raining cats and dogs? Thinking back, all of the cars that I've bought since the late 1980s have been delivered on sunny or cloudy days.. even once during a cold spell at -15 degrees. never done it in the rain.. but that was just chance.
I took delivery of my car on Feb. 2nd in South Carolina as I did performance center delivery. It rained the entire trip up and the wind in the NY area was kicking sand onto the car. I wrapped the critical areas with Xpel temporary PPF and used masking tape. No issues what so ever. I drove up in the winter with summer tires on.

Just drive smart, be safe, and pay attention to road. You should be good to go.

So many snowflakes on here. Do you plan not to drive the car unless there's perfect weather in the forecast for days?

speaking of snow... definitely don't drive a Toyota 4Runner in the snow. I had one 10 years ago because I was going through a midlife crisis(or trying to re-live my teenage years). After just 2 years, it suffered severe frame rust. One of the frames near the rear completely rusted through, causing damage to the rest of the frame.(repair cost was over $6000, which Toyota picked up after my attorney friend "reminded" them of their responsibility) Snow, ice and salt don't mix with stupid 4Runner frame that was not properly coated.

good advice on any road in any weather condition. I practice defensive driving religiously because there are too many idiots on the road.(sad but true)

I took delivery of my new 2022 X5M back in late 2021 and it was raining too. So I got my first umbrella from them then. I'm 2/2 at this dealer. When I buy another car from them, most likely I'll get another umbrella

I'd wait until I could enjoy your long drive home. The car would be ok if you took it easy, but the stress would ruin it.
