There were a few mistakes early in the CSL lap, Jorg even commented on cold tires. Obviously the tires are very different but the Touring run began at optimum tire temp thanks to the warmers. This can shake confidence early in a lap prompting patience for the tires to start sticking. No doubt cups are a handful when cold. My only point is the CSL lap is clearly not an optimum lap but accomplished what BMW wanted.

I think, the sport auto supertest of the CSL will shed some light on this topic! Given the ///M guys support/prepare the car as needed (which they have done for all the latest tests).

Christian Gebhardt is now on such a high skill level, that there isn't a big difference in skills to Jörg Weidinger imho.
Yes, Jörg has more intimate knowledge of the M4 CSL, but Christian in the meantime knows the G8x platform quite well. And if Christian takes some time with the M4 CSL on Cup2s, before doing the approx. 2 all-in laps on Cup2R (hopefully correctly preheated) ... he could produce astounding results!

If Christian is extremely close to the 7:15 in his supertest, it is a sign, that either Jörg was holding back or it simply wasn't his/the cars best performance.

Christian is a 4 time 24 hr Nurburging race winner and also a pole position. i don't know why they say he is slower than factory drivers

edit - unless there are more than one Christian Gebhardt racing drivers?

The very same Christian was 9s slower (7:37 in Sport Auto supertest) than the very same Jorg (7:28 as factory time at launch) in the M4 GTS at the very same Nordschleife as one reference point

Spending years driving the car on the ring as part of testing and developing it (giving feedback to the engineers) gives you an edge even if the drivers are on the same skill level as drivers.

Yes ... but only in the low-end amateur classes of the 24h race! He is NOT a pro. Would he e.g. take place in the SP6 or SP7 class (where roughly GT3 spec cars are competing) ... he would be far away from a win ... given that any team in those high end classes would offer him a driver position.

Exactly, 15s faster but with stickier tires, more power, less weight, stiffer set-up and almost twice the price.
With the same tires it would probably be half the difference, but with one you're going to go 5 with luggage.
15 seconds is a massive difference on a race track

Are you aware that we're talking about a 20.8 km/13 miles race track?
This would mean roughly 3 seconds slower on a 4 km/2.5 miles track, with less grippy tires (see below), over 200 kg more and 40 hp less. Still massive?

yes im fully aware that a 7+ minute track time equates to a larger track.

Just to clarify, both cars were on “Cup” tires, the M3T on PSC2 and the M4CSL on PSC2R

No “official” test out yet, but it is fair to assume it will be very similar to the M4C.
