I don’t get what was “leaked”? It’s an m3 with an extra row of seats

Extra row of seats? :

What's leaked is the car with no camouflage. Hard to understand, I know.

Love it. Still kinda undecided about where I stand on iDrive 8.

On the one hand, I love tech but on the other hand I miss the classic BMW interiors.

We indeed have way too many Tesla's and F150's, but we also do have traffic circles / rotaries (as they're called in New England). They're great places for young hooligans to learn the finer art of drifting.

Maybe he meant that it's a little anticlimactic, after all the videos and teasers and buildup about it, and it ends up looking exactly like we already knew it was going to look like.

Though a back-facing third row bench I had no idea about!

If Audi and Porsche have been able to succeed w/ performance wagons in the US, I don't see why an M3 wouldn't as well.

Too few people in the US willing to buy a $100k performance wagon. People will dream tho.

I have a base 911 with PDK.

Even in S3 and sport plus everything, there is quite a noticeable delay. I don't think it's in the shift, more so in the time for the car to register that you hit the paddle.

Analogy:
911 PDK shifts are like when you hit the paddle, you INSTANTLY shift and feel like you are DIRECTLY shifting the car. It's telepathic. It really feels like I'm driving a manual without a clutch pedal.
G80 M3 felt like hitting the paddle was hitting a button on a computer, telling the car to shift, then the shift happens. It's not seamless. It's almost like if you are typing and you hit "a" and then see "a" on your screen .25 seconds later. I even hit the rev limiter during my test drive 3x

That's what it feels like.

You also don't "feel" the shift like you do in other DCT cars.

Also, I did NOT get the same feeling shifting the F80 DCT that I did the PDK. The F80 felt rough and still, not as snappy but a slight delay vs PDK. PDK is just perfect.

Almost everyone who has reviewed this car has commented on the gearbox and the delay.

Yeah and the DCT dump shifts when you turn it way up and all the aids off. It's worse the more aggressive you drive, which is why the F80 cars got panned for being dangerous (if it shifted mid turn, you could lose control of the car)

People in love with the DCT that are panning the ZF8 like the image of it and the aggressiveness of the shifts. Performance of the two are equal at this point when you factor in the DCTs traction loss for a RWD car.
The only people that don't like the M DCT are the folks that can't drive 🤷🏾*♂️.

Hold tight!!
It's becoming reality……
Super excited……

What are the import rules in the USA?
Impossible to import a European car?
Feel for ya albeit we pay so much more for almost anything in Australia (probably 40% on BMWs!)

Agreed. With the size of your market it must be valid to do it.

No. I spoke to someone from BMWNA about it, and bringing it to the US was reevaluated in late 2021, but they again concluded that the business case wasn't there.

My bmw rep says the touring will come to the US. Idk how much we can really believe that. But, I'm praying this comes to the states. Would trade my x3m comp for the touring all day.

Unfair characterization of the ZF8. It's amazing in cars like the M5 CS, Jaguar Project 8, and probably Alfa GTAm (never driven one, but I'm guessing) etc. Its been improved to be more aggressive with OTA updates in the new M4 and probably will be incredible in the CSL.

The M-DCT is an overrated transmission and this car is probably very well suited to the ZF8.
It's a different experience and the DCT isn't overrated at all. I will always buy a car with one given the choice.
I'm with you on this. We tried a 3 series G wagon in anticipation of ordering a G81 wagon. Unfortunately the side profile didn't do it for us (I don't mind the front at all now) and the PDK macan GTS won us over a ZF8 G81 (the ZF8 in the G80/82 was a disappointment).

Everything else pales in comparison to Porsche PDK. My 991.1 GT3 shifts are lightning fast, it made my F10 M5 feel like a sluggish cow.

It looks exactly as we all expected, and best in black where the grilles aren't the focus.

Watching the "making of" video series, there's a completely absent shift linkage passthrough in the transmission tunnel, so you can 100% be certain that the G81 will not be available with a manual transmission.

I've heard MANY rumors that the G81 will not be coming to North America, but a few sparse comments to the contrary.

Sad to say if it were to bet on it, i'd guess that we won't be getting one, however, i'm reserving all judgement and BMW-NA aimed fury until it's officially confirmed.

Until then, i'll see y'all on the roads ;P
