Thinking of doing half and half:
Redline Euro 5w30
Redline HP 5w30

*edit*

I talked with Dave Granquist at Redline Oil, today 👍🏻
we had an in depth conversation.
He said the low budget oil analyses misread the oxygenated ester molecules, read as oxidation. He stated that they are polarized (esters) and the oxygen atoms make the ester attraction to the engine. Their oils don't suffer from premature oxidation and the readings are misleading. Also, regarding the correct oil for the new M3 / S58 engine __ it is the low ash Euro series high performance oil. Group 4/5 with the proper additive package. 5w30.
Soon the 0W30 will be added to Euro series.
so glad I called him today.
all set, having talked with the authority….

Been going between the two for a LL-01 FE oil.

Any experience? My guess is you can't go wrong with either and just get the cheapest? Which would be Motul.

Ever get another oil report on that xcess gen2 vs the top tech 4200?

Running between E30-E50 here, interested in that ethanol breakdown.

I am using liqui Moly Special Tec B 0W-30 on my G82 while it is still under warranty.

It has the BMW longlife-01 FE approval.

Sold my X3M, that Motul 5W40 worked perfectly for that car.

Got a G82 M4 Comp Xdrive, got it home and immediately did an oil change with Motul 8100 Gen 2 5W40.

For EU cars it's Top Tec 6100 0W-30

For EU cars it's Top Tec 6100 0W-30.

Did a bit of research on this for my car (actually way too much ). Welcome to the rabbit hole.

My advice is to keep within exact spec as in US manual for your car. Change oil within 5k miles interval or spring/autumn 6 month interval, whichever comes first.

*"Additives, engine oil grades page 346" section of EU manual.
*EU Manual for 2023 BMW G80 Comp xDrive lists exact specifications
0W-30
BMW Longlife-12 FE

*ACEA C2 (only for top up as an alternative to above)
*7 litters of oil (from workshop manual)

US and EU cars have different spec because of DPF and high sulphur in US fuel.

EU oil change interval is way longer vs US, this is also because of US high sulphur fuel content.

One of the largest oil additives producer in the world is Lubrizol. They do additives for multiple brands of oil, as in most of the ones you will ever know. They have a tool that gives you comparison view between standards imposed from different car manufacturers.
https://360.lubrizol.com/Resources/R...formance-Tools

You may also notice that German trading standards does not allow use of "fully synthetic oil" wording on the oil can, unless it's 100% actually so. Most brands in US/EU described as "fully synthetic oil" and they are not, but are within manufacturing spec.

Hope above helps to others making their own call, enjoy.

For the US market M3/M4s, LM recommends only SPECIAL TEC B FE 5W-30.

I would stick with the stock oil.
Where did you hear LM only recommends the 5W-30 weight for the Special Tec B FE for US markets? The Special Tec B FE also comes in 0W-30 weight and according to their oil selector recommendation both are acceptable.

My vote (after using both LiquidMoly and Motul in my S4) is that Motul is a much better oil. For the S58 motor, it’s either the 5-30 FE Motul or the 5-40 excess gen2, which is the same oil I use in the S4 and has the BMW cert without the FE shit, which is just “fuel economy”. I’d say it all depends on how hard you drive the car/engine will depict on if you should be fine with the thinner oil or go to 40. FYI, the BMW specific Motul at 5-30 FE has much better sheer resistance than other oils.

If you’re planning on driving the car aggressively and want to be a little more guaranteed that you can keep it a long time and have healthy results with the engine in a constantly hot climate, you can run to the 5w40 Motul or over brand that has the FF BMW cert. With no crazy winter driving it should be fine. The 0-30 oil is just for them to get the fuel efficiency ratings. If you want to still run a 30 but have in my opinion a better oil, do the 5-30 Motil FF01 BMW specific and even that should be less prone to sheering than BMW’s 0-30 branded stuff dealers use.
