If you look over to the left, you’ll see that I currently own another ‘controversial’ car.

I get that some folks on the internet thought it should have been done differently but the raw unfiltered meanness that was going around was pretty shocking really. My personal take was I’m glad anyone is taking a risk on sports cars of any sort right now and I liked it, so I bought it.

Like this forum the trolling, name calling and frankly personal attacks got so out of hand that the ban hammer was flying like Mjolnir and then things settled down.

In the real world everybody loves my ‘not a real’ Supra. People walk around it and drive around it when it’s parked, and almost everyday I get waves and thumbs up. Most importantly of all the little kiddos love it.

Life’s too short for all this nonsense, if you don’t like the grill don’t buy the car and speak your peace once and do it without personal attack. To keep talking about how much you hate the grill on the sub forum of people who like it is just trolling.

I had a 2020 Downshift Blue for about a year, loved it, hated it all at the same time. Since I never really cared about the previous generations of Supras I never understood all the comments. But there was a forum dedicated to the MKV and like minded people so it was all good.

I think the only thing they said I agreed with was the lie about the fake vents being able to be modified lol.

This unfortunately seems to be typical behavior. New model or even slightly modified model of any car comes out and people jump all over it with hate. The LCI X3M that was just announced is apparently the same as well. And, you are arriving here late. This forum has been pruned of most of the hate spewers so it is a considerably more peaceful place than it once was. If you want to see what could have been check out any G8x post on the Bimmerpost FB page. Replies are filled with pictures of pigs and the like.

I've been on Timezone going on 20 years with its outdated forum software. I agree the watch community is certainly a friendly bunch, although the mods over there can be rather heavy handed. I know a bunch of people that have randomly gotten banned. (Hopefully I don't get banned from TZ for talking bad about them on a different forum even.). My expensive watch tastes have calmed down some with the advent of smart watches.

I have people approach me all the time commentating how good my car looks...pretty much every other day. The car looks absolutely stunning in person from all angles.

Wow. This is the longest thread I've seen on the forum--and most opinionated. But, that's hardly unusual--on gun, watch or Veterans forums, all of which I enjoy, and was true on the Corvette Forum, as well--even more so. At the end of the day, you can learn a lot and have friendly disagreements, or be a jerk. That's the way life is, and more so these days in the most divided country of my lifetime. I've learned a lot, enjoyed a lot of posts, and am glad to be here. In return, I've tried to contribute. As to buying a gun, Rolex or BMW--just personal choices in the final analysis. No right and no wrong decision, imo. And the fact someone disagrees with yours is ultimately irrelevant.

Part of the reason this thread is so long is because it's numerous threads merged into one.... All in some way or another discussing the looks of the G8x. I guess this is what BMW wanted - to get people talking.

Yeah but on the Rolex forum when somebody doesn’t like particular model they most likely don’t comment on a thread dedicated or based on that model. And even if they do go on there and criticize it most of the time it’s very minimal and non-offensive. I’ve never seen anything like the attacks on this car. The crazy part is they told me I’m late to the party and all the real intense haters have been kicked out of here. LOL

It’s different and crazy… why I love my G80 even more. I still get a kick out of how many people get their panties in a bunch over it. And as stuck up as it sounds, majority of the people complaining are typically the ones that can’t get into a G8x. It is what it is.

And guess what… when BMW introduces the next M3/4, I hope it’s even more ridiculous. People’s heads will be falling off. Can’t wait.

I put my $85k towards an M car that I thought was monumental in many ways. No way in hell is some jealous twat going to inject anything else into my thinking.

It’s the bandwagon of hating on new things. Random people finding validation through others, and feeling a part of something. I kinda get it. We saw this with every new M car, and especially with the R35 GTR. Everyone was losing their minds. Frickin hilarious.

Why is it that humans are so terrified of evolution? I remember when vette's went from round tail lights to square... suicide prevention lines were jammed. In 2 years nobody will be talking about it because those afraid of change will either have moved on to another brand or accepted that change is not always so scary.

yep im sure they were trying to get people interested in the new i4 design language and this made a huge splash. They also probably do focus groups where people see a prototype in person and they dont do focus groups to see if random people on the internet that see a leaked picture of the car like the design language

The sales of this car are blowing away the F series when it came out and we are in a chip shortage. I get stopped every time I drive it people love it. Sorry man, I didn't mean to be rude.

Design is subjective and there were polarizing opinions every time a new M3/M4 came out + There are many people still love the design and bought in to this generation. G80/G82 are solid platforms to drive and mechanically superior then every past generation M3/M4.

Internet is indeed an interesting place. Car enthusiasts being carried away by design instead of sharing the passion of driving. F8x are great cars, too. Let's just enjoy the numbered the days of gas-powered great sport cars. G80/82 might be the last one
