Put my 829m wheels on the other day. I don’t love the look but they’ll do. I’m going to order spacers in the next couple days for sure

I'm in Brooklyn BTW. If the snow is that bad you will be taking it super easy and the Alpins will be fine. If it's just cold and below freezing which is most of the time in deep winter, I think the performance winters will have more time when they work better. As soon as you have a couple of slightly warm days, those studless snow tires are probably going to not perform well would be my guess. |

Tire Rack gave the Alpins good reviews on ice, and I believe you and your family will appreciate less road noise when pavement is dry or just wet (relative to more aggressive studless snow tires). |

Agreed, they are doing excellent for me in one of the coldest capital in the world, both in dry and snow. Studless snows are too much of a compromise on this car when the roads are dry.

My Alpin 5s encountered their first real snow today. Cut through 6" powder like there was nothing on the road. Drove over packed snow/ice (in 10°F temperatures) without any slippage or sidestepping. So far, so good!

I just placed an order for them through Summit Racing, they are estimating a ship date of 1/24, which is very seriously not likely to happen if at all. However, if things don't look good by then then I'll just opt in for a set of VikingContact 7's since they're readily available and live with them this season. We just got our first bit of snow around my neck of the woods and I feel like this cold season will last well into March, so I really don't wanna get caught with my car's metaphorical pants down.

Stock 19" (fronts) on all four corners with 275/35R19s (as noted much earlier in this thread). Last edited by luckylingy; 01-07-2022 at 09:14 AM.. Reason: tire size correction |

I think you meant 275/35/19! Would be amazing if the G8X could do 275/40 up front.

Re:
You mean that 275/40 won´t fit? And how about 265/40? I´m planning for next winter (my G80 is on order with delivery in May) to keep the 825 type wheels and put on 265/40/19 front and 275/35/19 rear winter tyres.

I'd be all for trying it out but with a baby at home + non-stop work, it's tough to give any time to experiments when my G80 gets delivered to me. I'll try fitting a 40 profile next year if no one's done it yet by then.

Installed Nexen Winterguard Sport 2's on my oem 18/19 and couldn't be happier. Quiet ride, decent grip in the recent 6" snowstorm we had and under $700 for all 4. I can't complain

My car is coming sooner than I thought and I will need a winter setup. Tire rack has nothing in 19".. the 829's are decent, but a lot of money for a regular looking wheel. Any advice will be appreciated!

I agree that the 829M's aren't very appealing, on top of the fact that they're cast wheels. Unfortunately you won't readily find Michelin Pilot Alpin 5's anywhere else. Personally, I am purchasing a front set of 19" 826M's to run in the back, and am waiting to see if I can get Alpin 5's from SummitRacing and if not, I'll be running VikingContact 7's for this season.
