I'm sure the G87 will be bigger, but the F87 is already a small car that if it grew an inch or two wouldn't be that significant IMO. The G87 better be lighter than the M2c. We already know it will be more powerful with the s58, that engine is a beast.
They might put the b58 engine like n54 in 1m and n55 in m2. The only reason why they switched to s55 for m2c is because of emissions requirements and they didn't want to retrofit emissions equipment for n55

The new 4er is an absolutely stunning car.
Scott,

I thought you said previously that the 4er was "controversial"?

I hope not and I don't think that will be the case. This seemed obvious to all of us enthusiasts but it seems the decision-makers at BMW took a long time to realize just how popular a more affordable & smaller M coupe can be in today's market. 1M was limited to 1,306 units globally but people still pay top dollar to get their hands on one of those cars. I've been lucky enough to drive a couple of them and they're truly fun cars so I can definitely see why. M2's supply was initially constricted as well, first model year cars were hard to get but I think the extremely strong and continued demand forced BMW to finally ramp up production and stop thinking of these entry-level M coupes as niche vehicles.

Remember that the Z3 and Z4 based M vehicles sold absolutely terribly, I think this is why BMW has been cautious about its sub-M3 M models but the sales success of M2 has forced them to see the light.

M2's sales numbers are comparable to M3 now so they should treat it as a full M product. The competition in this price & size range is also very serious. The new CLA45 AMG and Audi RS3 both have extremely impressive bespoke engines in them so it only makes sense for the S58 to be used to compete with those vehicles.

It is controversial. That large kidney grille will prove not only controversial but decisive. That will become apparent on these pages in the not-so-distant future.
As I spend more time with it I come to appreciate its looks more and more not just the front but how it blends the sleek outline of the F32 and 8er's more organic muscular body together.

Thanks Scott.

Question for you, is the 'M3 Pure', not happening?

Hmm. Actually got me thinking. The next C63 AMG will get even bigger and heavier, so to cut weight they'll probably go from the V8 all the way down to a tuned version of their new inline-4.

Do you mean fixed callipers like on the F80? If so, I really hope it has them as well but I'm not hopeful looking at all the other newer M cars with single floating callipers on the rear.
Apart from the obvious cost saving (Boo!!), I've always thought, isn't this surely a move backwards in terms of performance!?!
Yes that is what I meant I really hope it doesn't have the single floating setup that I currently have on the X5M. In my opinion braking power would be much better plus it would also look amazing.

This is unlikely. There's only a 100lb difference between the AMG 4 and 8 cylinder motors, and AMG has never really focused on lightness, they're all about raw power and noise.

I don't think you were serious, but since you brought it up I would predict something like this:

Evolution of M177 V8 - 10% chance
Evolution of M256 I6 - 89% chance
Version of new M139 I4 - 1% chance

I am open to revolution in design language.

What I'm not open to is BMW M lowering their build quality, going from street-legal track cars to a stoplight poser car. While masses might not care about slight delay in manual shifts or 100 some kg increase in gross weight, I do.

Substance is more important than appearance.

I'm really curious how the 4 will look. I am really skeptical about the front end design. I hope to be proven wrong.

Couldn't agree more....just saw the latest X6 interior and it is identical to my m850i interior...the sound from the new z is pretty similar to my m850i....needless to say the exclusivity even within the brand is gone.

Horrible looking. Reminds me of the Acura TL and the big front and grill 10 years ago around 2009. They redesigned that one fast.

I feel the opposite when it comes to real M cars. Before the F series BMW cars you could buy any BMW and it felt special, it had that BMW feel. M cars took that feel to level 11. Today M cars still feel like BMWs while non M cars have lost most of that special BMW feel and the gap to me feel wider than ever.

Statements like this take me back. When I really think about how I felt about non-///M BMW's, I truly did like my '02 330ci sport package more than my '06 330i and my '14 335i. Yes, the 335i was fast and the 330i got AWESOME gas mileage, there was something about that '02 330ci that stands out. Maybe it's because it was my first [of 14] BMW(s)....or maybe it did just feel better.
