Spotify
Is it just me or does the music sound better playing via the Spotify app rather than CarPlay?

Not you, the built in app does sound clearer and less dropouts.

Not just you. It does sound better.
A bigger problem is the glitchiness of the app, CarPlay, phone, or some combination of the 3. I always play Spotify through the app while the phone is connected via CarPlay since it sounds better, but sometimes if you change the song or playlist, it glitches out and will stop playing even though the song still looks like it's playing on the display. Then there is a song and dance of connecting/disconnecting the phone until it decides to play again. Fun times. |

Thanks for confirming! Just started using it so I guess I’ll see how glitchy it gets and if it will convince me out of using it this way.

What music quality setting do you have for the Spotify app on your iPhone? Is it set to the highest quality? If not, try setting it to High and see if that’s comparable to the BMW app music quality.

I have always had both set to very high. Still sounds better on the app rather than CarPlay.

Sounds better for me than Android Auto as well. I'm no audiophile but the bass is a lot punchier to me.

Speaking of the Spotify app, I wanted to play a song and suddenly the app got stuck. It shows that the song is loading, but then nothing happens. I can leave the app, but as soon as I start it again, the same notification comes up again (even after switching off the engine). Has anyone had this before?
There is no reset button or anything like that, so what could be done? Disconnect the battery? I have ID8. |

I may have identified the reason Spotify sounds worse in AA. Go into the Spotify app on your phone and under settings change volume normalization to "off". Once I did this I found both the in car app and the Android auto version sound about the same.
H/t to this LifeHacker article for the idea https://lifehacker.com/you-can-make-...ter-1849743180 |

My CarPlay Spotify kept clobbering my iDrive app (super buggy) so I went into the CarPlay settings on my phone and unticked Spotify so now it doesn't try to start up automatically.

I use the built-in Spotify app only, rarely even connect my phone over Bluetooth, and never with Car Play.
When listening to some of my suggested lists, it either plays shuffled (even though that's not selected) or if I skip a song or two, it starts playing again from the top of the list. This has been happening far more frequently since the last car update. Any fixes other than a 'power cycle' by turning off the car and locking it?

Not sure if this is a AUSTRALIA thing but I do not have a installed Spotify app on BMW ID7. I have to use it from my phone.
Do the US cars have it installed on the IDrive system, or is it only a ID8 thing?

Pretty sure it is installed by default in US. Have you checked the BMW app store it might available there.

Maybe a licensing thing. Pain but use the mobile. I prefer Tidal anyway due to the CD quality.

The car has its own (LTE?) modem and internet connect. That's also how it gets navigation map updates.
