Dravit shouldn't be considered an individual color. I'd only consider something to be an individual color if it is not a color offered via the normal order guide process and instead requires a special request to be submitted to BMW for approval.

So I know it shows up on the Bmw build site but there is a pop up that states its an "individual color" and has "special consideration" .

sounds like the same extra steps we all did for our colors.

anyone have any additional thoughts? I am new to individual color ordering so please chime in.

Open to interpretation I suppose on a formal definition.

I don't believe dravit requires the same special considerations/approvals from BMW like my Twilight Purple though…

Before they updated the visualizer, the other day, the title of the color used to say "Individual Dravit Gray" Now, that the visualizer has been updated, its no longer in the title of the color. I agree that it doesn't require the same special consideration as, say, Grigio Telesto, but BMW still identifies it as individual, although, its listed under the visualizer as an in stock, so to speak, available color. Hence why I asked.

While were on the subject, Tazanite Blue II would fall under the same category as Dravit Gray.

Its weird that BMW considers Dravit Grey, Tanzanite Blue II, Oxide Grey and Aventurin Red are considered as Individual shades in configurator as they dont need the special approval like the other exterior colors tracked in this thread. Guess these shades might have limited production or manufactured in batches unlike the regular pallet. I would like to know some insights.

Well, I would have spec'd either Grigio Telesto, or Fashion Gray, if my car wasn't already over $102K.

Now if I created a thread for over $100K G8Xs, It would probably be me, and 3 other people that need their heads examined.

From what I have found online These colors are cheaper than regular individual colors but there "could" be the need for the SA to submit paperwork. its less of an "approval" and more a notice that this order is getting "special" paint.

Its definitely not the flaming hoops I had to jump through at my dealer for Voodoo blue and cheaper than $4500 but BMW still calls these colors "individual". I am thinking we err on if BMW calls it "individual" then it is.

We all are crazy passionate about BMW and probably a bit more invested in the car compared to others since we did go out of our way to pay more and get approval. I get that. Im trying to be inclusive here and still respect the fact that we all had to do more to get the color we wanted.

My Intent with this Thread was this. I was very curious how many more people did individual colors on this forum. I know my sample size is only going to be :
1. People on this forum
2. People who see this thread and want to be counted

I think its great that we have 30+ people who also are excited about getting this car and who wanted to share that on the thread. Im excited to see all the data and also excited as this is my first M car and wanted to share the excitement with all of you.

Exactly. Same with the frozen colours. There are a few different categories of paint options, including "pre-approved" Individual metallic and frozen paints that are ~half the cost of an Individual paint order that goes through an approval and special assembly workflow, though the latter is potentially no longer true as BWM makes even that more efficient.

What is the point of this list? I think the implied objective here was the tally the builds that are inherently rare, subject to approval, and have a paint that isn't in the build tool (regardless of what the paint is branded as).

While I'm all for defining terms to decrease ambiguity, we can also ask ourselves: does it matter?

Dravit, Tanzanite, Aventurin, and Oxide are selectable color options (Priority 1 only) in the BMW ordering system, so there is no extra work needed to order those colors. For "true" individual colors, a form must be submitted for the color request including paint code, production number, wholesale and retail pricing, and a signature. Then that form is submitted for approval by BMW AG.
