OK … having just checked Michelin's Aussie site there are 255/35 R19 and 275/35 R19 both PS4S* available … I have the "normal" PS4S but the * rated sizes just appeared on their list. I then read the press on them and there is some additional M2 and M3/M4 development that has occurred for the PS4S. Has Michelin bothered homologating a special PS4S for the older F80 AND the G80?

I would definitely not recommend doing that. The tread compound is likely different for the two tires and putting a rear tire up front with a front tire in the rear on the wrong wheel widths is not optimal at all. You're likely better off using the generic PS4S if you want to retain the original F8X tire sizes.

Chassis specific tire development is a joint effort between the vehicle and tire manufacturer and is quite exhaustive (expensive and time consuming) and is done concurently with the development of the vehicle itself. BMW and Michelin will not invest in developing a new spec tire for older chassis.

This was a very interesting video. Bottom line is there is no free lunch - what they gained in the dry they lost in the wet. Choices choices. When are you most likely to crash? Since my generic 4S are the street and rain track setup, I actually prefer the better capability in the wet and could not care less for the maximum dry track traction. And with -3 negative camber at the front...

This is amazing! BMW should incorporate these tires for all their M lineup. If I weren't switching to the G80 I would put these on my F82. The top 2 mods for my F82 that offered the most performance price ratio was finally switching to the PS4S from the OEM Pilot Sports and BM3. Just hoping that I'll eventually win the tire lottery and not get stuck with the Pirelli's.

I was naively under the impression that they just use the same design across cars with similar weight and dynamics as opposed to individually developed tires per model vs brand. Comments from some others around non* ps4s on f80 losing steering feel have me wondering if I should just go with *pss Thanks! |

This is on of my favorite reviews of anything lately. I have heard for years there was a difference with the Star tires but its nice to see its just not marketing BS. 2 seconds is huge.

I'd like to not care about the tire I get, however the wet performance is very important where I am. My understanding is that the Pirellis suffer in the wet. |

Exact Manufacture part number of "BMW Star" tire
Can someone please give me exact part numbers for the tires from the video?!?
Tire Size: front 225/45R18/XL rear 255/40R18/XL I'm in Southern California and am trying to find the same "BMW Star" tires referenced in the video for my 2022 M340xi. I want to get tires from Costco if possible, where I did find an "OEM" for the PS4 not the PS4S (see below) but I can't tell if they are the ones from the video. What tire do I want for max performance (no bad weather) PSS, PS4, AS4, PS4S . . . ? What is the best option that Costco sells? Or should I get tires somewhere else? If possible, please help give me a link to the best tire that is locally available. Michelin - Pilot Sport 4 OEM Costco Item #: 1382342 1632355 Mfg Item #: 01333 10526 Michelin - Pilot Sport 4 S (doesn't say OEM) Costco Item #: 1236608 1236680 Mfg Item #: 31753 98512 Last edited by new_g20; 10-23-2023 at 07:19 PM.. |

225/40/19 245/35/19 245/45/19 255/35/19 275/35/19 275/35/20 285/30/20 285/35/20 255/40/21 295/30/21 315/20/22 You can get Pilot Sport 4 ZP (run-flat) or Pilot Super Sport star specs in your sizes. Star spec PSS is a much better tire IMO than stock PS4S. Last edited by geko29; 10-24-2023 at 07:00 AM.. |
