Yep...peoples can blame Leclerc as much as they like (and quite rightly, it was a clumsy move) for the crash with Perez...but Verstappen drove into the tyre barrier all by himself.

I was a fan of Bottas but this season gives anyone enough reason for pause. Yes he has had crap luck but RUS was clearly the better driver from start to finish despite both of them finishing just inside the top 10.
I would agree with this, but what I haven’t see is anyone crediting Lewis for his driver contributions to the Wx chassis development. I believe, not even remotely being an LH fan, he has played a critical role in helping set up the car. Yes, the W11 is crushing the competition. Yes, I personally believe ALL 20 drivers have extremely good talent and the other 18 would likely show strong results in the car, but they haven’t for their own reasons matched the W11. I understand some is budget, but not all. There’s another talent I can attribute to the WDC whom I care nothing for.

I'm surprised no one brought it up yet. But I think RUS proved he can be a future champ today, if he is paired with and learns from HAM. At this point VER has no chance at Merc.

Today, neither Merc pilot was even close to the podium. So respect where it is due.

I’m confused, first you say neither merc driver showed up today, then you say you’re surprised no one has brought up that RUS proved he can be a future champ

Which is it?

RUS showed up and ran an amazing race and only didn’t make the podium due to the team letting him down and then a puncture, but he still ended up in the points.

Bit of both. He did very well Friday, and yesterday, and today. Until he picked up that puncture. In the end excuses get you no where, and driving smart gets you to the podium. Super impressive for 22, but still no podium. That's why I'm split.

He showed potential though, that's for sure. And he took it like a champ. Instead of bitching at everyone. So I think he has a future at Merc.

It's pretty clear if you remove the variables which were out of George's control...

One of the Ham fanatics suggested that Ham would've overridden the pit call and therefore avoided all of those variables, but that is some bold speculation as Ham doesn't override a majority of pit calls. Even if it would've happened, you're talking about a driver with massive tenure versus a young guy given a one time replacement role. He can't just call shots like that or he'd burn bridges for the future.

Perez over the board radio : The 2 Mercs in trouble ?

Hold my beer !

On a serious note : Perez fought for the victory . Great performance !
Hopefully he won his '21 seat "somewhere" as well ..

Brutal.

These attempts to parse RUS's unreal, flawless race performance against HAM's hypothetical pit stop overrule and puncture avoidance... I mean, come on fellas.

Race fans all over the world saw it. RUS Hamilton'd Bottas today. BOT is a perpetual #2 driver against any top tier talent. If F1 is about racing, HAM will have a fellow Brit to fight next year in an equal car that actually fits him. For anyone other than those who want to see HAM coast to his 8th, this is a no-brainer.

The weirdest excuse was: Hamilton’s race craft would’ve prevented the puncture.
In second place comes: Hamilton would’ve disagreed to go for a pitstop and avoid the mess up. 😂😂😂

Lol every single “expert” plus the stewards say it’s his fault but some people say it’s a shared fault between him and Perez! What do you expect Perez to do? Roll the red carpet for Lecrash? Or maybe avoid him and lose places like Vettel did after last week’s divebomb!
Two years in Ferrari and he did this 4 times: Suzuka 2019, Styria 2020, Bahrain 2020, and Sakhir 2020.

I’m curious what would’ve happened if Perez hadn’t come across so hard, because Leclerc had clearly just entered extreme plow mode and wasn’t going to be making the turn in anyways.

He would’ve taken third then fell back the field in the next couple of laps just like every Sunday.
