Prior to any firsthand experience, I considered the buckets an absolute must. They are among the best looking seats available.
After driving an M3 for a day with buckets...hard pass. They are supremely comfortable and offer all the support you can imagine, but ingress/egress (moreso egress) was the dealbreaker. We got this car as a beater for running errands and not having to be picky about where it was parked. Getting out of the buckets when parked in tight spaces was a no-go, and my wife and I are both fit. We have several other cars with buckets and/or proper racing seats. Didn't care to have the same experience in a daily. But they sure do look nice. |

Sports vs bucket seats is a highly personal decision that you should only make with first hand experience......especially if you have never owned a car with bucket seats.
Some people can daily an SVJ with bucket seats for years while others have backs that crave comfy throne like seats. |

That comment was clearly a "mine is bigger than yours" comment.

Me too! What other vehicles does Jeeves have the pleasure of driving around to the Porte Cochere of The Estate for your driving pleasure?

Wife hated them at first….took her for a sprinted ride in the mountains and she was so impressed at how well the carbon seats performed. Now she understands! Still complains sometimes though!

I suppose if money is no object, you might be able to custom fit the bottoms from the M5 CS rear seats to the fronts of a G8x. Side bolstering looks a bit less aggressive. I assume it will not be at all plug n play, but if you throw enough dough at it…

For what it's worth I've sat in both. I'm 6'2" 275 and found the carbon buckets pretty uncomfortable. I had no problems with the sport seats. I think a smaller person would be plenty comfortable in the buckets, but it's likely dependent on your stature.

For an additional information point, my gf just rode ~2hrs total in my carbon buckets for the first time and thought they were great. She's 5'2" and I'm 5'11" and we both find them very comfortable. I would add we are both fit and it may not be the best choice for those that are larger in stature. I agree with the points about entering and exiting the seats being difficult. I have to instruct any new passengers how to sit down which isn't something you typically do in a normal car...but I didn't buy it to have a normal car. Looks of the CFB are unbeatable.

Well to be honest, it's technically my wife's daily. But cars are communal, so that's neither here nor there.
Point is that much of the discussion about bucket seats vs. standard is focussed on comfort, but in my use-case comfort was irrelevant. In a situation where you can only open the door say halfway to the first resting point while keeping one hand on it to prevent it from opening further, getting out of a car with buckets becomes a royal pain in the ass, even for someone half the size of an average American. |
