My solution to fender liner rubbing

Today I modified my fender liner as I have a pretty aggressive setup (285 PS4S front, 20x10 +15, 12mm spacer. I used a painted gutter guard as the mesh and automotive grade zip ties. This solution removes the loud rubbing caused by the outer "louvers". Special thanks to ericj0n and FISH22. Loving this clean look.

Link to gutter guard here.

Damn, you weren’t kidding when you said you have an aggressive setup!

I’m surprised you didn’t rub the fins clean off to begin with.

I had previously trimmed them, but the rubbing continued. the top fin did snap off on one side and gave up.. either way, all good now! I can lock the steering wheel and reverse all day

Good work, thanks for sharing. Trimmed the fins on mine, but it appears to be rubbing on the flat area towards the outer part of linear.

It does rub in that area, but it doesn't make the super loud sound that rubbing the fins made. With time, the tire will rub that area out until it doesn't anymore - no big deal IMO. Trimming the fins does work, but it leaves the heat exchanger more exposed.

Looks great, I think ill need to do this as well. How hard/annoying was it to remove the fender liner?

It's about 15 (maybe less) 10mm (M3) / 8mm (M4) screws. not hard at all. Get a 1/4 in ratchet with an extension and you can take it off in 5 - 10 min.

What exactly is the function of the louvers? It's either directing front side air and water flowing through the HE downward, which doesn't make much sense. The louvered insert on the brake duct is obviously directing water down and not on the rotor. but that is passing through uninterpreted versus through the fins of the HE. Best I can think of it's preventing mud or sticky debris from getting flung into the back of the HE that departs the tire at a downward trajectory. Nice and simple solution you have there. If I never drive in foul weather I might just cut out that problem area and leave open.

Thank you. I do believe it is your second thought that is the case here, looking at the louvers from a downward angle, it is a solid wall - the angle allows the HX to breathe while keeping rocks/debris that wrap around the tire from hitting it from the back.

Yep, just thought of track clag too - that box could hold a few pounds of tire boogers.
