Hey guys! I currently have V3’s installed. The shop who installed them has softened them multiple times for me, but this car still rides too stiff for me as a daily. I can feel every crack in the road through my spine. I’m wondering if selling the coils and stepping down to a has kit to use the factory dampening would be beneficial? I installed the V3’s 200 miles after purchasing my g80 so I don’t really remember what it rode like stock.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

A KW V3 is like a Ohlins always better in ride quality. Because with lowering springs you still have the limits of the oem shocks.

I don't know if this would help, but in Jakarta, I was recommended this by the importer. He said its the softest that suit here the best:

Bump 12 all around
Front rebound 17, rear rebound 16

Frankly this was a bit too soft for me, so he recommended the next setting which I am comfortable with:

Bump 11 all around
Front rebound 15, rear rebound 14

Im using the H&R VTF, and the ride quality is similar to stock. Give them a try if you are interested in getting adjustable springs instead.

I put everything as soft as it can go and I still am not pleased with how it rides.

If you have troubles with ride comfort, don't forget tires and wheel size have a huge impact on your ride comfort as well ...

How many inch did lowered your car?

From a general personal experience ( not on the g80 ) on many M cars and bmw cars l, if you want a better ride than stock go from ohlins Road and track, and above. Just a thought. Again personal opinion

On the g80 now I have eibach front only.
Will be replacing them with oem has kit next week ( I don't like the change in rake -> balance).

Nothing major in difference on how it rides on 19/20 and 20/21. Slightly more composed but not harsh. And I live in 2 cities with BAD roads.

After this setup I will try something a bit more extreme but definitely way more expensive than the springs

Stock wheels and tires. Junk pirellis might be some of the cause.
It’s low but shouldn’t matter that’s the entire point of coils

I cannot imagine a situation where a HAS kit on standard dampers can be more comfortable than a proper setup of springs and fit-for-purpose coilovers. Are you sure the V3 is installed properly? I have seen a YT video where left and right kits where switched and the springs installed upside down.

Curious, how much worse is the ride in the softest settings compared to stock?
My settings are dialed in how I like it. Took me a few months of adjusting and testing but right now it rides like it’s in sport. Also depends on the roads you have but I live in the Bay Area and we don’t have the smoothest either.

Is it too floaty or does it crash too much on bumps/dips? You want a firm enough ride you can tolerate on a daily basis without going too soft.

I put everything full soft. The bumps aren’t the issue, it’s the jarringness (is that a word?) when hitting cracks or unevenness in the road.

This car for me is 100% just a daily. I have a Ferrari F8 dumped on a KW has kit + 21/22” wheels and it rides 750,000 times better than the m3 it’s not even close. I had the V3s waiting for me before I even got the G80 because I had them on my F80 previously and they rode way better than stock on that car. I only drove this car maybe 200 miles before installing the V3s so I don’t remember what stock felt like.

Dinan might be a good option. It’s softer in the rear that stock. It’s the best gas option if it doesn’t depend on bumpstops

I have v3 on the lowest setting with 2 front 2 rear.
I cannot say it rides better than stock as it is lowered alot, the lower you go it is not possible for you to expect better ride as springs are stiffer and less damper to travel, but I was pretty pleased with the ride quality compared to any other cars that I lowered with, of course handling is 100x better.

Just curious why nobody is recommending the HAS option the OP asked about? I’m curious too. Is there something with the HAS that folks are avoiding?

p.s. getting KW HAS installed in a few weeks…hence my curiosity.

OP has KW V3s which are double adjustable, so they should be able to be dialed down to a soft setting.

HAS just improves height adjustment while usually retaining EDC. There are no HAS kits for the G8X which currently provide a softer ride.

On the F8X the BMW MP-HAS kit did give a softer ride than stock springs, but I’ve heard on the G8X that both the MP and KW-HAS kits are stiffer than stock. I’m also looking for softer G8X HAS to be released, and hopefully a kit with separate spring choices.

Maybe going to a custom spring is the move. Look into Swift. You can just swap the springs out with a spring rate that you’d be comfortable with.

You'd have to install camber plates also as HAS springs are tapered to fit OEM strut mounts. Then you're at the halfway mark for coilovers.

I was referring to the V3 setup that is already on the vehicle.
