(Needless to say, I am checking with other dealers in the area...)
That's why you shouldn't talk sales with a Service Advisor, and just work with your Client Advisor.

But it's still showing $1950 on the configurator, smells like BS to me.

I'm not sure how they could do it that way, it would still show as $1950 on the Monroney label.

True, it'd just me a market adjustment for another $3k

Which is even dumber since individual colors are only $4500 (another $2550). I'd definitely call them out on it.

Sorry, typo... CA, obviously. Yes, this would effectively be a $5k market adjustment by the dealership (on top of the $1950 Dravit Grey fee by BMW). And yes, it's BS.

Wow, that's terrible. I can't believe how bold some of these dealers are in their attempts to just outright rob people.

We live in a time where a dealer is so worried about a manufacturer's throughput!

I think they're more worried about their own throughput. For example, without any special orders/Individual, they can move maybe 2 G80's per month. But if one of them is an Individual, then it still uses up one of the dealer allocations, but it takes them longer (6-10 weeks) before delivery, and hence defers the realized sale/revenue on it.

So, yes, it slows down their throughput, but still, that's obnoxious IMO.

Interesting…though I actually meant from BMW’s standpoint. It is the incremental cost for production chain disruption that interests me.

Most likely a small marginal cost to do the individual paints, but also have consider the bit of a disruption to the production line

But theoretically, DG isnt an individual order. Unless its a frozen paint or a real individual color, other vehicles most likely would not add any additional production time because of the chosen paint.

In the current market, any vehicle can be stuck in a stop sale and as a result might sit in the factory or VPC for months. Its just another fancy way of charging ADM.

Yep, exactly. Though when a car's sitting at the pier, there's not much the dealership can do about it. But when a customer has signed up to pay more and wait longer for a special paint, then clearly they're a good target for exploiting some additional ADM.

I get that DG and a couple others aren't fully "individual" (lower price and threshold for approval), but I'm not sure what the difference is from a manufacturing/assembly line perspective.

just a thought. you can just get the IND front painted reflector for 150$ in an individual color. Once you pick the color, sell the other reflectors to someone else who is or is planning to order the color.

The challenge though is knowing what they look like in person. Santorini, Enzian and Voodoo look practically identical on the internet. That was my challenge in deciding and why I had these made.
