Petition to Bring G81 M3 Touring to the US

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Edit: We also have a Change.org petition thanks to ki__: http://chng.it/7Z7sRrfZdK

As we all have probably heard, the rumor is that the upcoming G81 M3 won't be offered in the US market for various reasons. I was already debating about the idea of starting a new thread to show BMW and BMW USA the potential interest from the US buyer about the G81. After seeing couple other similar thoughts in the other G81 thread and hearing from Jason that they would support this initiative, I decided to start this thread which will hopefully serve as a petition to bring G81 M3 to the US.

In addition to the answering the poll, please feel free to post your thoughts about why BMW and BMW USA should offer the G81 here in the States. I understand this is not something official with hard commitments from people but I believe it will be good indicator of the potential interest.

Let's make this happen!

For many crossover just don't do it and are pointless. Bmw have no more wagon to offer when Mercedes, Audi and Volvo still offer plenty. Wagons create loyal customers. Some people just need more space than a sedan can offer but don't want to sacrifice the driving dynamics and buy a crossover.

I'd pay $5-10k more than the sedan for the wagon in the US; see:

As a current owner of an F31 and M5 and having owned 15+ BMW's in the last ten years I will put a deposit down the day they announce the M3 Touring availability in the US.

I have no interest in the station wagon, but I want my fellow enthusiasts to be happy...so I signed.

It should come to the US since it will make me smile every time I see one. And these days we need more smiles

In my opinion G81 should come to the US because it checks more boxes for me than G80/G82:

- It's the perfect all-purpose performance vehicle in the M lineup with better utility and subjectively better looks (yes, I think it looks better than its siblings G80 and G82).
- I don't want to be forced to buying an SUV (which I'm not planning to do anytime soon). The G81 will help me stay with the BMW brand instead of considering other wagon options (e.g. used E63S wagon or used RS6 avant).
- G81 wagon could potentially attract customers from other brands (i.e. people who are considering A4 allroad, A6 allroad, E-class wagon etc.)
- Especially if it's offered with a 6MT option, it get even more attention from the enthusiasts. I know enthusiast are a small portion of the market but still it will be a nice selling point even for people who are not actively on the market.

Not sure if this is such a crazy idea from the corporate's point of view but BMW USA could also start an initiative to gauge the interest. They can basically accept small amount of refundable deposit for the G81 via the BMW USA website with certain terms and conditions (i.e. they reserve the right to make a decision at any time to not bring it here, meaning just because you left a deposit doesn't mean it will for sure be offered in the US). A refundable deposit is still not a hard commitment but I think it would be a step further in terms of seeing how serious people are. Just an idea...

I have said numerous times over the past 5 years that the perfect car for me is M3 and Estate.
Bmw... your move.
I'm buying the new M3 when released next year after my current lease is up. Would really rather get an M3 Estate. Waaaaay more fun and distinctive.

Touring in a landslide.

Also, in the petition can we ask for a 6MT version since it is already standard on the G80.

I hear the argument against bringing wagons here: 1. nobody buys them and 2. it's too expensive.

But the counterpoint I have are that AMG and Quattro are bringing in their top gun wagons. BMW is just as resourceful so if the other 2 major German brands can do it, why not ///M?

I do agree that the M3 wagon won't be a best seller, but it will add to
BMW's enthusiast equity and brand panache that can attract buyers to the roundel in similar ways the e63 wagon does for AMG. The universal praise and articles being written about the e63 wagon flies in the face of poor sales, but it's something that AMG and its enthusiasts can hang their hats on at the end of the day. In my opinion, some of that enthusiasm is being eroded by BMW NA. People might say if you're not happy, just go buy something else from another brand. But as enthusiasts we don't want to threaten BMW by saying we're going to leave the brand if you don't give us what we want. We'd rather beg/plead/persuade them to "do the right thing."

Hopefully the m3 wagon makes it to the US. If it doesn't BMW will be fine and still sell many cars, but it will lessen my enthusiasm for the brand and maybe that's just enough to have them change their mind.

Looks like BMW should cancel the vert. A big fat zero takers in the poll.

I don't think G81 will sell more than the G80/G82 but I definitely don't see it doing much worse than G83

BMW needs to do a better job balancing business economics and value creation for customers. If you spend too much time on the business economics you can easily miss shifting behaviors. And there's an obvious surge in product personalization driving loyalty and profits.

The feedback from the US on the M3 Touring isn't noise. No one needs a new M3. We want to buy one to fulfill our travel and mobility needs. I have a F80 and a F97 and I'm holding for a G81.

This is an opportunity for BMW M to connect with us and I want to connect with a new M3 Touring.
