This look is baffling. It's like we're living in the timeline where Alfa mimicked BMW with their Guilia Quadrifoglio to produce an Italian M3, then BMW decided that they'll return the favor and mimic the Guilia's grille, only in a twin-kidney arrangement.

Look, I get it, BMW's trademark was once elongated twin-kidney grilles, but what worked back in the 50s will not necessarily work in the year of our lord 2019.

The G20's looks are overall rather good-looking in my humble opinion, regardless of how many people claiming that the rear is Lexus-esque. Can't we just have a similar sort of treatment for the M models as what was done with the pre-facelift 2-door versions of the E46, i.e. still the same overall theme but where everything just looked tighter and more subtly aggressive and more Touringcar-ish?
Why stick a gigantic grille on the front? Is there any functional need to do that?

BUT, let me not rant too much until we see the final product. the renders are fantastically done, my gripe is purely with the proposed grille treatment of the yet-to-be-revealed M models.

No no. You'll have to buy the Competition model for the black grills.
Or just buy parts and install yourself

Polarizing render to get people talking, no way it will look like that it's just way too far from current design and not to mention hideous. I agree with others, just make it a smaller looking M8, that car is beautiful and the rest of these grill experiments are getting worse and worse..i.e X7, 7 series, New 3 series.

what little German punk thinks he deserves the right to change a hallmark brand identity piece going back almost 100yrs to 1933 with the introduction of kidney grills ... and do it on the most iconic car the brand has ever developed (M3). i just hope the lower fascia really isnt like that. i could get used to the grills but all that nonsens in the bumper needs to chill a bit.

pretty upset that they would allow such a change away from tradition, period.

Darth Vader M3 I would imagine this grill to be a bit more slanted forward as the older 6 series or even the concept. I do like it in a way. Just wish it was still more aggressive.

I would buy for sure!

Oh my God. This cannot be true. I would never buy a car that looked like this, regardless of manufacturer. Ruined it!

I loved the days when an M car was more a sleeper that if quickly glanced at would be mistaken for a base series. Makes me think of this ha
agree to disagree - I feel like if you're paying the big bucks for an M car they should have some sort of presence as opposed to the standard version. Also another reason why people modify their M's to make them further more aggressive.

Like Mercedes does in Germany, maybe offer an option where the M bumpers can be replaced with more "standard" looking ones to blend in with the non-Ms.

I'm not sure what to feel about this render yet. Part of me is interested but I don't like the horizontal slats - they should remain vertical.
I can certainly appreciate this and everyone's opinion would be different. I'm actually ok with the horizontal lines. I feel vertical would only make it look taller. Maybe if they just softened up the lines a bit with all the extra intakes or found a way to better incorporate the grill with the rest of them on the bottom it would be better.

The e63s or M5 comp are looking pretty good right now as my second car. BTW, I fully expect the m4 to look like a baby m8 and that will be a good thing.
4 series has already been spied w/ the tall grills as well, the side profile though does look like a baby 8, but it probably won't look like an 8 up front, also remember, modern M3's tend to share a grill w/ the 3 series coupe/4 series since the E90

Ugly. That grill design is awful. Looks bad on both Audi and Lexus and this is probably worse than both.

M3 is M3. Release it.
As long as it fast (under 3.3 seconds 0-60mph) and all wheel drive I am cool with it

It seems like its overdone a bit and remember these are renderings. I can imagine the grills being somewhere between this, and the current f80. Honestly, I get a lot of attention in the F80 and think it does distinguish itself as different compared to f30 (well mine is YMB which also stands out). I would probably stick with my F80 for awhile if this is the true design (which I seriously doubt)

M cars usually don't have drastic changes to exterior styling. They usually just refresh the tail lights and headlights from the 3 series. Even the M Sport cars usually don't get refreshes lately, just the light upgrades. I think the E90 had a reshaped tail light which forced an updated trunklid but the quarter panel was the same, I believe.

The F80 had the same grille from pre to post LCI. If they do chrome, it will probably stay standard chrome and have an optional black grille from pre-LCI to LCI.

Any clues on whether it will have the flared rear fenders! That's a must for the M3, it also helps it to differentiate from standard 3 series!

I hope that's still a work in progress. That is not a good look. Pushing me closer and closer to P-car and lots of maintenance to keep my E92 running smooth.
