Fun video...but I got bored once it was over:

US pricing translation as the pricing delta between the two cars is so different in the UK vs the US.

UK Pounds: BMW 85k, 911 83k with 1k of unknown options...sticking with 83k.
UK Prices in US Dollars: BMW 115.7k, 911 113k

Eep! to $116k for an M3!

US Dollars, current configurator prices: BMW 89.7K, 911 102.5k + the unknown options.

13k US isn't a deal breaker for most folk around here, but that's 13k with base sound, 4 way seats, "partial leather" on the seats, base headlights, missing everything in the premium package, etc...

US Price if you match the equipment levels with the M3 as best as you can: $121700. So, $36k more expensive than a comparably-equipped M3 Comp RWD in the US. Not counting the current stupid markup situation...

Ok...boredom over, I need another cup of coffee...

Shifts are slow in the fastest setting on par eith my cayenne , it has no mid range. But seats are nice carbon buckets and it drives very smooth in harshest setting.

I would prefer to spend the extra 60$k on a 911 GTS and keep the value vs spend less on the m3 and lose 70k the day I sign the papers.

When you compare this to my 2018 carrera GTS it is not the same league, species or anything close to in quality.

When you drive a 911 we'll you know why it cost so much.

A moderately optioned Carrera GTS is DOUBLE the price of a G8X. The reason the base Carrera is used is because it's closer to the price point of an option dense G8X. Yes, the base Carrera is down on power, but it's also down on weight.

Why would you think that many or most of us haven't driven a 911 in some form or another? Weird.

This, plus Porsche skimps on quality in some areas too. I had to option my 992 C2S up to $145k just to feel like the interior was at least on par with my recently sold F82 M4 that I paid $85k for (…which had full leather interior).

It's unfortunate that BMW has no interest in weight management, and has gone down this controversial styling path. Oh and the steering issues are non stop.

^^seeing that BMW is making more money then ever before maybe they know what they are doing, the looks/mechanics/etc.. of a car are always going to be subjective however the units they are producing although slow due to chip issues are selling like hotcakes so there is still a very very high demand out there for these and other BMWs going in the direction BMW are taking their various designs/mechanics/etc.. I think a lot of people who didn't like the looks came around and those who still dont like it prob wont and thats ok. I still can't get around the Alfa but I respect the car for what it is and those who buy it its a great car, the looks just dont do it for me..

i like to see all types of comparisons its fun but a 4 door vs a small sport car seems odd but entertaining nonetheless

This was a fun watch, and definitely a forum first for me to see an M3 compared to a Cayenne.

Oh geez.

I've had 4 911's including a 19 GTS and two 992 S since 2017. The 991.2 is dated. The technology is old. Yes it's a great drivers car. But it's old!

The 992 was a nice improvement but you can't see the dash gauges. The infotainment sucked. And both of my 2020 911's were buy backs. Back to back too.

So your statement about drive a Porsche to see why it costs more holds no water to me. I left the brand over lack of quality and crappy infotainment. Truth be told, both my 991.2's were flawless. Just extremely dated in interior and infotainment.

Porsche is a great drivers car. But after spending 4yrs straight in one, I feel the BMW G8x is one hell of a deal and a better car for the money hands down.

And it seems to me that the g8x platform is holding its value just fine vs Porsche.

My 911s was 162k. My m3 was 85k. Both of which are selling higher than msrp even used.

I don't know. But after 4 911's in a row. I left Porsche extremely disappointed. I absolutely love my m3 which replaced my 162k 911.

They ain't ALL that. Been there done that. Yet here I am.

In US you can't compare these. Price wise options similar the Porsche is $35,000 more.

And then we aren't even talking about practicality, anyone with kids or a dog are not even comparing these 2 cars. And if you don't really use the back seat why would you look at a M3?

Yes, Porsche with 992 has made some quality compromises inside, we know. But are 145K for a much more beautiful car with a much better drive. Or you have something to complain on those sides as well.

The 992 still has an arguably better interior than any 911 before it. FINALLY Porsche modernized the dash/navigation layout; it's one of my favorite interior upgrades. It's a nice place to be, but it costs quite a bit to make it on par with even a full leather F82 interior.

My entire point was the C2S and GTS aren't even in the same stratosphere in terms of price, so a comparison is somewhat silly. The base Carrera [with no options] is much closer to the price of a nearly fully optioned G8X, making it a better comparison.

More problematic is the fact they won't use the dual clutch ZF AWD tranny for the sake of not having to recode X-Drive to it… (not like the price difference of the tranny is the issue here…)

A DCT in the M3/M4 line would make these cars feel much sportier and responsive.

I can understand for the M5/M8 the « comfort » of a granny tranny makes sense but not for the smaller cars.

Speaking as a past M5C owner and current M4C owner…

I looked at both and I was heading towards the 911 as I'm married and we have no kids. I've daily driven multiple E36, E46, and E92 M3's, and all of those have been 2 doors. I looked for allocations and wasn't able to get anywhere near one in the next 12 months or so while I found one for my M3 in the same state at MSRP so that made my decision rather easy. I may sell it next year and get a 911 but that's still in the air.

Big Worm in the house--- I dont even have to talk about my Porsche vs G80 ownership as you typed it up (nine 911's including 5 Turbo's). I still have my 18 GTS and love it but the G80 X is equally amazing if not better in street situations.

Both cars are epic in different ways and for different reasons. Neither one can replace the other and that's ok. Head to head comparisons like this are fun to watch, but flawed by design.
