I looked at the installation instructions. What a pita to install! Just my opinion coming from 6.2L V8s, but why would you want to mute the exhaust on an M4? Even with open valves, or midpipes or whatever, it's still too quiet. But, to each his own.

It's not too bad, IF you have a lift and the right tools (I used to do high-end car audio installs so I'm used to running wires, finding gromets and tapping into and running wires). You'd definitely would want to do some planning as to where you can mount the control box (would make sense to place it somewhere in the back. There is good change you can tap a 12v switched source there too). The rest is just running the wires, tapping a few grounds and making it nice and tidy.

I wouldn't even attempt it without a lift though.

Agree. Wiring the valves open just lying on the ground was hard enough. Could only use one arm. If I had backed it up on my Rhino Ramps would have been easier. Running wires--no thanks.

I spoke with a dinan dealer and dinan themselves it's back ordered and probably won't be available for a year

I ordered the CG Precision's one from Mod Bargains for $199 yesterday and it shipped already. I see a lot of sites have it backordered.

I couldnt figure out how this installs from the .pdf. Looks like wiring changes? Or is that what the plug and play solves? Looking forward to your review.

I don't see one listed on their website one specifically for the G80, only the F80. Can you post a link?

Yes I asked Peem to make sure it’s the OBD plug and play version I got as I’m not going to mess with the wiring, patiently waiting for its arrival

Interesting, for $139 euros I am going to try it as well.

Website is in German - I assume that "Off" is standard stock valve function and not completely closed all the time?

I haven't found a single person who tried BimmerLink yet only BimmerCode

I want to use BimmerLink to open the valve even if I have to do it everytime I get in the car

I'm just worried about bricking the ECU, I've never coded a car before and I saw on one of the OBD connectors that they advertised "won't brick your ecu"…I sat there and thought to myself "well I wasn't worried about bricking my ECU until I read this"

Regardless BimmerLink advertises that it works for g8x

I tried BimmerLink on both my G80 and F97 tonight. No luck with the exhaust flaps. An error comes up "Function not supported" or something similar.

Good news is that ASD can be turned off with BimmerLink. But I would have loved the valve controller function. Maybe an app upgrade in the future?

BimmerLink lists the g8x as a supported platform

Do you know if your obd connector is compatible for the g8x? It may fit properly but the coding will not work if it's not designed with this car in mind

BimmerLink has a list on their site of which obd connector works with this car

Also, are you afraid this could brick your ecu? I want to do it as well for a valve controller use-case but I'm paranoid I'll brick the ecu or void a warranty

The other normal features like ASD, sensor values, data logging, all work as expected. So communication between the OBD port/Bluetooth adapter and the phone work fine.

I'll contact their support for advice which you can do by sending logs right from their app.

I have no concerns about using this App I've done it on my various F80s with great success.

Any thoughts on the difference between this and pulling the resonators?

This might be a cleaner aka reversible option?

Similar results? Or is pulling the resonators louder?

Pulling the resonators won't just make it louder it also could potentially change the characteristics of the sound for better or for worse

Also not reversible, if you find a drone you're fucked

Why can't you just weld the res back? People have pulled res with no drone and even added xpipe. Sounds good to me from the videos.

Feedback from BimmerLink directly on opening the flaps with their application.

Hi,
does not work for the G80 unfortunately. We achieved to control the exhaust flap when the car is standing still, but as soon as the car starts moving, the DME will regain control over the flap.

This supports what many have reported on this thread already...but just closing the loop with more info.
