Not sure if what my issue is, but I had setup my digital key with the NON charging pad. I then did this wifi charging upgrade and my digital key still worked.

Today my digital key was acting up. I reset the digital key. That removed it from my iphone. But now it wont re-pair! Ive restored my iphone. Ive reset idrive. Logged in and out of my bmw. Nothing works.

I dont know if its me or the new charging pad not allowing my iphone to re-pair. But I have lost my digital key now.

Update:

I got my iphone to pair with with the digital key (using the wifi charging pad retrofit) AFTER I did the coding to enable that I've left my phone on the charger.

Now, I had to also disable carplay and the cars wifi for bimmercode to connect via enet cable and lighting adapter.

I do not know if it was the coding that allowed me to repair my digital key OR if it was disabling the cars wifi and carplay.

So if any of you loose the ability to re pair your iphone as the digital key. Try disabling the cars wifi and carplay. And or do the coding so the car will tell you that youve left your iphone on the charger.

No I didn't, as I use the mobile app, not a browser, to have access to this forum which doesn't show the member's locations

went for a short test ride. iPhone 13 Pro with Apple silicon magsafe case. started out at 33% battery. Went on a 20 min ride. Phone was charging, i saw the green charging icon in the status bar. when i got back, phone was at 28% battery and almost too hot to touch. lol. what absolute garbage. i may just put back the original part, since i like the digital key, but the heat from charging seems like it can ruin the phone battery in the long term.
If you plug your phone in to the USB cable and also set it on the wireless charger will it NOT get hot? Meaning will it not activate the wireless charger? I'm thinking having this option is good if it could at least maintain battery % while in use but then be able to plug in the USB cord when you want to get a good charge. Please confirm, thanks.

Did you find one online since I am not keen on spending $600+ if I can avoid it.

i doubled checked my part number, as there was been 3 wireless charger part numbers, the first 2 are discontinued. i have the 3rd (latest) part number.

i went on a drive today and tried without the apple silicon case. within 10 minutes the phone so so hot, it felt like it could have burst into flames.

that also happens to be the best place to put your phone and use digital key, so i will be swapping back in the non-wireless charging pad next weekend.

what a waste of time, effort, and money.

Interesting. My iPhone 13 pro gets warm but isn't hot by any means. I do have a silicone case though.

This is my first car with factory wireless charging. It doesnt get mine any warmer than the few amazon ones I have around my house. Its not a rapid charger to me. But I dont seem to go down in power when its on the wireless charger while using carplay and spotify. Maybe that will change if I am running maps or waze on it. Overall, mine seems to charge no differently than my china brand amazon home wireless pads I have. But I also dont drive much long distance. My commute to work is 10-15 mins. I have yet to leave it on there for hours at a time.

I do wish I could deactivate it at will though. I dont always want my iphone charging every time I get in the car. But I like keeping in there.

Not yet. Found the following item. just

I don't know if they ship to Aus or not
When you check the compatibility it says it's not for an M3 2021

It's 100% compatible - I know because I have this very part (number 84-10-5-A1D-B18)

These part catalogues aren't 100% accurate when they list compatibility

Might be a bit off topic, but does the G80 have a cell signal booster/repeater installed? I've heard BMWs with wireless charging factory installed include this. My '21 Supra has this (it's a BMW part), with the interior antenna located near the charging pad.

I set my phone in my G05 on the pad with one corner slightly sticking out so it is not flat on the pad and then it won't charge.

Fitting to new M3

Hi mate.
Did you order your part from the USA? I’m the UK too and want to do this but just need to make sure I get it right. Did you need the LTE part too??

There is a video that shows how to do the install (I never took out the complete cupholder, only disconnected one wire and was able to access the wireless charging tray after that)

Hey, nope I bought mine from a Danish website called Schmiedmann (can't see it there anymore so must be out of stock)

The exact part number of the item I got is 84-10-5-A1D-B18 - it's all you need - don't need the LTE compensator etc

I had to do this retrofit twice as I sold my first G80 for another one with X drive. The part number listed in this tread (84-10-5-A1D-B18) has been discontinued but I was able to find one left at a dealership on the east coast.

I don't know the replacement part number. But supposedly there is a new PN to order for this retrofit.

Just a heads up to those looking to do this retrofit.
