If you're not buying when the car is first released, what kind of discounts can be expected? I spec'ed mine out to be $82k (assuming +$3K for xDrive) and if % discount off MSRP (10%) and lease residual numbers (60%) are similar to the M340i (I doubt it will be though) - I could definitely afford to lease one (would be about $200 more per month than my M340i).

I doubt the discount would be the same, not sure on the residual number.

That's because everyone is paying for MSRP right now, therefore no one has brought it up.

However, after a year, supply will stabilize and there will be more activity on the pricing thread.

But to shed some light, no way will the G80 M3/4 be available for 10% off. It would probably hover between 5-7% when the market stabilizes, on average. Maybe after 6-10 months you may be lucky with 3%, but that is not too common for the average person.

In terms of residues, you can check the pricing thread on the F80 group to get an idea from the early adopters to later in the lifecycle. However, this information should be out later in the year from what I have been told. I think November? But don't quote me on this.

Thanks, yeah I figured 10% off there'd be little to no chance. I was guessing 6%, so sounds about right for estimates.

My lease isn't up on my M340i until September 2022, so I have some time!

That would be the perfect time to start seeing discounts for these models. I was thinking of waiting till 2022 as well.

Curious if the hype will have died down by the time the vert is released? Convertibles in general are a dying market segment. My last car was an S5 Cabrio and I was hopeful they'd have come out with an RS5 Vert, but they didn't. I didnt buy an M4 3 years ago because I need the AWD to get to VT in the winter. Now the stars are aligning.. so, wondering if when the Vert is out in AWD if one should be able to get something in the 5-7% disc range?

If past performance is an indicator on future performance, then I would say discounts will start to occur after the first 12 months mark.

However, this generation is slightly unique due to the fact of Covid and overall car market decline. Therefore, I anticipate BMW to pump out as many cars as they can to make up for previous bad quarters. BMW knows there is significant interest in this model. It would behoove BMW to capitalize on this momentum and convert interests into deliveries. Conversely, dealers are pushing for BMW to increase deliveries. I know a few dealers in various regions and have spoken to them about their allocations etc. it was surprising that usual low volume dealers have requested more of these cars than they previously did for other M cars. Obviously, it is a very small sample size, but it was a dramatic shift from previous business practices. Dealers are eager to make up for a decline in March / April, while trying to capitalize on the normal busy summer months.

From my experience asking dealers around Toronto area... for first batch of custom orders ... 3% off is doable and often offered by dealers who wanna negotiate in good faith. Of course I've also heard plenty of salespeople hyping up demand and "get in line" speeches too.

So I just came across one and it had a very specific spec, that is non-modifiable. I feel like most early M adopters would like to spec theirs out to their personal preferences. And also with the CF seats, which sadly this one does not have.

Deals will be had even for early adopters. I was an early F80 adopter and got a deal.

For sure, there will be exceptions. But by large, they become more readily available for everyone after 12 months. It would be hard pressed to find anyone who put in the work to not get at least something off on a M vehicle

I think 12 months is an overestimate unless there is another slowdown in car production. Im guessing 3-4 months. I dont see large groups of people lining up to order.. a lot of “wait and see” people.

Hey I'm all for 5-8% off in 3-4 months and hopefully hitting close to 10% a bit after that. That was the good days with the F80. Time will tell, but I agree it will come. The M3/4 is BMW's "bread and butter" M. Although I feel like the X3M may overtake that title with the SUV craze

By late 2021, you should be able to do 8-9% off MSRP in custom order depending on where you are ordering from.

My guess on the timeline looks like this:
Between now and late spring/early summer next year you are looking at 3% off max. Starting summer 6% off max, by late fall/
Winter 2021, you should be able to get up to 8-9% and even 10% in some cases.

i agree, i'm thinking of waiting for it to settle, aftermarket products to be made and also for bmw to hash out the kinks per initial release.

Hashing out the kinks is for real. Even though the G80 regular 3 series platform has been out for a few years, it's still good to see what happens.

I have been burned twice on being early adopters. Once on the new 4 series when it came out and most recently on the G05. So many issues! Gotta be patient this time around

I currently have a G20 M340i xDrive and I guess technically the G20 platform came out with the 330i as a 2019 model - but my G20 hasn't had any issues. There were a few software bugs that I had with the new iDrive but was just a quick trip to the dealer for a firmware upgrade that fixed pretty much all of the problems and now Over the Air iDrive updates are working (although you don't usually get the latest and greatest version).

The S58 is not new either as it is being used in the X3M, so hopefully that translates into a more reliable G80/G82 from the get go!

I'm assuming when the cars first hit the dealerships the dealers are going to mark everything up and stick it to the people that can't wait and want to be first adopters. i'm assuming at some point when the initial frenzy dies off BMW will start offering lease incentives and might actually discount off of the MSRP and an actual halfway decent deal could be had on a new M.

I was thinking about leasing an M340 but I'm not in a rush and I could easily wait 6 to 9 months even a year before I pull the trigger and just keep driving what I've got now.

I'm curious what kind of lease pricing you think someone could actually get on an M3 once the dealers offer better pricing and when will that be timewise

depends on allocations, if dealers are only getting 1 a month or 1 every 2 months it could be a while. if they're heavily allocated than could be sooner rather than later. also depends on programming from BMW (residuals, MF, incentives, etc..)
