I wish there was a way to get the Icon Adaptive LED headlights without having to order the Executive Package.

No, because you are one generation behind

The base headlights are LED and the optional headlights are Laser, no "icon"

Yup, back when the F8x first came out, the lighting package was separate from the exec. package, which I very much preferred.

The pricing guide is calling the upgrade option "Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight."

I agree with the other guys, the better looking Icon lights are the only single thing in Exec I want and I'm not about to pay $3,000 to have them along with a bunch of stuff I'd never use. I hate HUD and especially hate how ugly it makes the top of the dash + it creates more reflections on the windshield on sunny days, will never use remote engine start or heated steering wheel, power tailgate is unnecessary, and they can keep their slow wireless charging and gesture control. This is 100% personal preference, if people want some or all of those things I think the $3,000 price is fair for all of that.

Aside from this, the pricing for base price is spot-on to where M3s have always been adjusted for inflation and all of the options and packages are priced well in my opinion.

more reasonable pricing than I thought and lots included. If you consider the AT is included (DCT was a ~3k option before) and it's the competition model. Too bad the really nice paint options are so expensive.

Anyone know what 'M Drive Professional' is?

Interesting, I have not seen them called that way elsewhere than in the US...

Over the years, were the first batches of new model Ms sold right at MSRP, marked up, or with some discount, generally speaking?

All of the above. It is really region specific. Most usual cases of markups will be in SoCal. However, most overall cases are cars been sold at msrp. And a very small cases of new cars are sold with a slight discount. Discounts range from 1% to maybe 3% early on if you have done a lot of business with the dealer

$50,000 in 2000 USD is ~$75500 is 2020 USD. The car technically hasn't got more expensive, the value of the dollar has just diminished

New M Drive Professional

Making its debut is new optional M Drive Professional, which has been developed specifically for track driving. This new option helps the driver to make consistent progress in pursuit of the ideal line and the perfect lap. Features include the M Drift Analyzer which records the duration, distance covered, line and angle of a drift with a rating shown on the Control Display.

Other functions include the M Laptimer, which provides a comprehensive amount of performance information, shown on both the optional Head-Up display and in the instrument cluster, beyond just recording lap times. As well as checking their current lap time, the driver can also keep a constant eye on how much quicker or slower they are than their fastest lap of the current session. The Control Display shows the number of laps completed so far, the distance covered and the duration of the driver’s current stint. The driver can also analyze the data recorded during their track outing in detail using the BMW M Laptimer app on their Apple iPhone – and share selected information with the online community. Among the resources available are a bird’s-eye map view of the track, a lap time comparison, data from the car’s sensors such as speed, engine revs and accelerator position, and graphics showing the lateral and longitudinal acceleration values attained.

Maybe go read what they are called under the Executive Package content I was simply stating I would want the headlights that come with the exec package without having to order the whole package. And I'm aware even the base headlights are LED but not with the laserlight tech hence missing the nice blue piece.

Copying from the executive package in the pdf:

"Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight"

Edit: Someone else already pointed it out before me

Here are the differences between the base and Competition options:
  • ZDY Driving Assistance Professional Package is not available for the base model.
  • 1CR Remote Engine Start is not available for the MT, so the ZPX Executive Package for the base model is $200 cheaper.
  • 1T6, 1T7, 1T8, and 1U0 which are the 19"/20" wheel choices are a $1300 up-charge for the base model since it has the 1T5 18"/19" wheels standard.
  • 3DE Extended Shadowline Trim Deletion gives your Competition model car body color mirror caps and rear spoiler as well as polished silver exhaust tips so it will look like the base model (for no additional charge).
  • 7M9 Extended Shadowline Trim gives your base model car Shadowline mirror caps and rear spoiler as well as Black Chrome exhaust tips so it will look like the Competition model (for no additional charge).
  • 4GQ M Seat Belts are standard equipment for the Competition model but not available on the base model (assuming this is not an erroneous omission).

Yup, this!

https://www.usinflationcalculator.com

$50k in 2002 is about $72k today. The real deal, despite it's age is the M2C (not biased because I have one on order, still contemplating a G80). At $61,645, this equates to about $42,500 in 2002, or a then-loaded 330Ci coupe. If anything, the cars are actually a value today.

That being said, other costs (housing, healthcare, insurance, energy in some states) have risen more than inflation, and some costs have appeared and crept from where they didn't really exist before. How many people spent $200-300 a month on cell phones, Starbucks coffee and extraneous subscription services 20 years ago? Combine this with the fact that people generally are tied to dollar figures. I'm not terribly old, and I remember when a "base 911" was $75k. You can't get one for $100k today. It's not the car, it's all the other crap!

Thank god this car has remote start. I'm spoiled with my wife's cadillac and I hated that the F80 didn't have it. In Miami it's a need to cool the car before going into a sauna...even with dark tints.

Find it humorous that the top of the line model still only gets Harmon Kardon- notorious for vibration whenever playing any above and beyond track with organ cords on logic 7 surround mode.

Fucking hate this sound system in my x4mc.

Thats what I would go with here in France...
Brooklyn Gray, 826M wheels, Silverstone Full Leather, Pack M Performance (only way to get M Carbon seats - obliged to have Ceramic brakes as part of pack), Pack Innovation > 165,139.99 EUR = 194,441.66 USD

Luckily I'm not fully convinced by the design. Looking forward to the presentations though. Happy Shopping

Does anyone know what 7ME M Driver's Package is? It is excluded when you get a sunroof.

Assuming it's like it has been in the past, it increases the top speed and gives you the M School pass.

https://www.google.com/search?q=m+drivers+package

It's not absolutely clear whether there is a technical reason why you cannot get it with the non-CF roof or if that is more of a marketing move.

...I was thinking marketing move as well reading old versions of 7ME... maybe all testing of 7ME enabled top speed was with carbon roof? Seems curious the sunroof would make the car anything but a littel heavier... ridges in CF roof are cosmetic id assume? or an aero purpose?
