Another one of those "design concepts". And it has one thing in common with 99% of the others: They changed the grills to be horizontal. It just doesn't work and looks like crap.

If you are really that annoyed with the grill, there are two options:

Option one if you want it "cheap", i.e. only a front bumper change, then you have to keep the grill vertical. Sure, make it smaller, change the outline a bit or whatever, but the whole front end is designed to work with a vertical kidney. The design just doesn't work if you take out a single piece and change it.

Option two if you really, really want horizontal kidneys, is to also change the whole frontend incl at least the hood and maybe fenders and even lights. But at that point do you really want to buy an M3? Or aren't you just better off buying a different model or brand entirely?

Option 2 is where I am going. Hard to break old habits tho.

Why didn't the BMW M Designers stick with this gorgeous and successful design is beyond me.

My struggle with all these "post-design" attempts is they do not consider key function elements such as crash worthiness and aerodynamics (cooling airflow).

Thanks for sharing, it is a very interesting analysis of the design language. I would have liked to hear his take on the M4 also though .

I have never tracked a car in my life. I always say I want to but just never got around to it. I just like to have a sweet looking ride for a daily with some balls and the ability to hit the mountains on the weekends. Im also huge on connection with the vehicle.

Im also a giant with a newborn soon so things like an M2 or 911 are pretty much out.

F8x failed on the connection to the vehicle but was beautiful and ballsy. I fear the G80 will be ballsy but not stimulate me in any other way.

I was one of the forum members 'hating' on the grilles over the past 1+ years.

Love my M2C so much that I was content to just drive the piss out of it until the the G87 M2C rolled out.

The G80/82 was then actually released and, in an odd way, the new design made my F87 M2C seem kind of 'tired.'

NOT dissing the M2C. Just saying, I was oddly drawn to the new design of the G80 M3C.

Getting to the punchline, I submitted my G80 M3C build to my dealership last week.

I think it will be a great ride . . . but, if not, there will still always be the G87 M2C.

Beautiful spec! Wow, you have fantastic taste putting this together. Bravo! I'm sure you also consulted your friend(s) on this spec. They (he) must have great taste as well.

Ok, Ok JCZ5 . . . credit where credit is deserved.

You cost me $12K+ in the MPE and MP coilovers on my M2C . . . and now I see a fucking MRSP of about $90K with the M3C you wanted me to get.

With friends like you . . .

It better be a damn good car!!!

Nicely spec'd vehicle. I feel the carbon buckets are priced appropriately. Great choice on that too.

Thank you sir . . . total crap shoot, as I have never seen or driven the G80.

JCZ5 did seriously influence all of my decisions as, for example, I never imagined purchasing a car with orange seats.

At any rate, I am optimistic it will be a nice ride.

You will see that the tide will change. Mark my words. They'll be labeling the G8X the greatest and most controversial M3 ever. It's going to really outshine the competition.

My reason(s) for holding that position?!? Well, it has happened every single iteration of ///M3 going back to the E36. I don't think it'll be any different this time around come end of production for the G8X.

What has happened? It outshines the competition or the previous M3 iteration? Cause the F8x never outshined an E9x for me or a lot of people. I doubt the G8x will either.

F8x wasn't the greatest ever and I highly doubt the G8x will be. And yes the F8x is the fastest to date not arguing that.

Well in terms of performance there's a night and day difference between the E9X and the F8X. I suspect that'll continue with the introduction of the G8X. As for the subtleties, that's an individual thing. I miss absolutely nothing about the three E9X M3's I owned. The F8X was better in every measurable and immeasurable way....for me. I do occasionally miss one of my E46 M3's: my '05 IB ZCP with Speed Cloth, TEIN coil overs and OEM CSL CF center console and door panels.......but it's merely emotional. I wouldn't give up my current F82 to have that car back in my possession again.

Does your F8X have better steering than the E9X?
