Agreed. Just go to the Kith website and ask yourself if the Kith brand is something you believe the average motorhead would go for. Don't think so. Remember the boys from Top Gear making fun of the Ferrari and Porsche clothes and Christmas gift ideas? Funny stuff.

Puma have BMW, Mercedes and Ferrari-branded footgear for more than 5 years. I used to have several pairs and they were so nice that other BMW drivers kept asking for where I got them so they can get a pair. This is no poser joke, this marketing works.

Nonsense. if they release a Masters golf edition 7 series I'll find it equally tacky and desperate.

Surprised you don't object more to BMW corporate elites pandering than the people calling it out. There's nothing about corporate BMW/M that's "Kith."

BMW/M used to make driver's cars that people were drawn to on merit. Now they're hoping lifestyle associations will generate sales.

In their defense, and from a brand outlook perspective, there's a waning interest in cars & driving among younger gens. Positioning cars as an element of the lifestyle shit they're actually interested in might not be a bad play.

If they're wrong, they could end up being castigated from both sides as sellouts. I'd say they're well on their way from the enthusiast perspective.

I'm not hating on the whole idea of a collab, but BMW definitely gone at it wrong, and some of these "hypebeasts" are defending KITH as if their livelihoods depended on it.

IF BMW collaborated with a designer known for its innovative use of materials, or trend-setting color pallet and design, I don't think 90% of us would be complaining...

Instead of literally no innovation and slapping KITH badges around the car and bastardizing it, you could have done :

Exclusive interior design with ____ Brand, who are known for a certain style like Bottega Veneta with its leather weaves and then not over-do it with BV branding everywhere, the design and material itself speaks to the collab


Innovative and eye-catching new interior color pallet with ____ Brand
Like introducing Burberry's classic or even modernized checks (as an example, BTW Burberry has now gone into street as well and is one of THE hottest fashion brands worn by people sub 30)


So many opportunities, those above collabs would still have the car scream BMW instead of attaching KITH logos everywhere and even removing the ///M at the back and replacing it with ///KITH, this is how you lose prestige as a brand, when collaborators can altar your signature logos and such...

Oh well, different strokes for different folks eh

The point is, this is a huge victory for Kith even though people feel Kith is not worthy/beneath BMW. I dont see it as pandering on the part of BMW - there was no gun to their head, they chose to do this on their own.

The alignment of ideas and brands in today’s world will not resonate with the ignorant, which is the whole problem evidenced in this thread. So instead of trying to understand this in greater detail, the dumbed-down commentary ensues.

Kith and BMW have already won regardless of what anyone thinks.

The seats in the founders red KITH M4 with the embossed KITH logo were very tasteful in my opinion, I was expecting to see those seats here, those are well executed. Would have been a great add to this edition. The idea carried over to the front headrest inserts slightly.

Marketing tactics. I thought BMW does this kind of thing after the midlife refresh to keep people interested. I guess this is an indication that they think their end product is not as attractive as they thought.
