I will say that I really appreciate the diverse color choices they have.

Maybe different you are right in your neck of the woods. I think out here in SoCal it will be very popular and that's great, it looks like a cool color and if your going for a flashy car why not get a flashy color right
Very LA mentality for sure: Increase the flashiness ... must ... get ... noticed. lol.

Although do I do like looking at the brighter colors usually and would choose that for a wall poster (or desktop background, etc), I prefer to avoid the negative attention usually associated with it ... sad, but true.

Funny how even in California you can pick out a Yas Marina car coming from a mile away, very unique color that one.

This.

I don't think SPY will be as popular - for example - as the launch color Marina Bay Blue on the F90 M5. Bright blue is a more palatable color to the masses, not just the BMW enthusiasts on this forum. Most M5s (I would bet 75%) are some variety of the grayscale (black, white, silver, and everything in between)

SPY might be exciting to the followers on this forum, and I understand the typical M3 buyer is younger and may be looking for a more "vibrant" shade on their M3 than an M5 but there are several alternative "safer" bright colors available for the M3 (IOMGreen, Toronto Red, TBlue II) than SPY.

I'm not saying SPY won't be popular but I would bet no more than 15% on the M3 (maybe 20% on the M4) over the entire lifecycle, not just the initial adopters.

Remember, we on this forum are a tiny portion of M3/4 buyers.

Which will make my SPY M3 6MT with carbon buckets, carbon interior trim, and carbon exterior trim a very rare bird.
Whatever Austin yellow was, cut it in half. That's my bet for SPY, even though I think it looks great.

The demographic for M5 is different from the M3, hence why Yas was very popular. The buyers tend to be younger.

Also reason why more m3/m4 owners go for individual colours due to the wide range of palette available.

I love that SPY is offered and love to see it on the road but it's too loud for me personally as a DD.

My [probably crazy] test I use to evaluate potential car colors is this: Back when I had my F80 (Tanzanite blue) I attended a funeral and had to drive by the line of people waiting to pay respects. I already felt a bit showy since the car is loud compared to other cars, even with valves closed. If I had a SPY-colored car in that scenario, I'd have felt even more uncomfortable. That's probably a lame, and hopefully rare, scenario to use for my litmus test but it does cross my mind.

Impossible to mistake it for an E9x or F8x.

I totally get what you mean. Almost like certain clothes you wear out to clubs but not appropriate for work. certain situations you want to blend in, not show out.

Exactly! If this car were purely a fun, weekend car then I'd go for something loud

Great point. Anyone buying this car isn't going for a subdued look. This car almost requires a flashy color

Austin yellow was the color on 1102 of 34,677 F80 M3s globally.

That's 3.2%

Now that I know that, no way SPY is any more than 5-6% max on the G80.

It looks good in pictures, probably better in real life, and it'll be an "oooh-ahhh" point and stare moment when you see one, but they won't be commonplace.

I like that SPY has a little green in it. It makes it a little more interesting. I saw this at Indy in a not well lit room and thought it was a pretty bold color. I'd really like to see it out in the sunlight. I think I really like the color, but I could see some of my daily driving places (like work at times) where I'd be a little more self conscious pulling in in it. On the road normally though I think it would be great. I think it will be a polarizing color to those that see it. I agree that there are some snazzy blues like YMB and Laguna Seca that are bold yet in a little more conservative way.

Haha yes I'm not exactly young in my late 30s and am strongly considering an M4 in SPY with YMB carbon seats. Yikes... will 100% be 6MT too. The color combo just does it for me. I think it's striking and pairs well with the new design.

TBII works too but we already have that on our X7 M50i so maybe Dravit Grey.

My #1 choice would be Miami Blue but ugh $5k...

I have made similar arguments. I run a large food manufacturing company. I can't imagine pulling up to a business meeting in a SPY g80. I drove a YMB F80 for 3 years and got a lot of friendly but constant teasing for that color (as well as a lot of love).

Agreed on the YMB. I get the occasional slightly negative smurfy comment, but overall people are in love with the color when they see it and I get a ton of compliments on it. I think I'm definitely numb at this point after 4 years to how cool of a color it is.

Black tape is covering up the holes from the screws that attached the camo panels to the body. This car will eventually be scraped because it's a pre-production test mule.
This might sound ridiculous, but I think it looks better with the tape

I’m in the group thinking SPY will be a popular color amongst the buyers. The frozen colors look good in the pictures but I don’t think they will present as well next to a nicely detailed metallic painted car. I’m a bit conservative in my tastes and personally believe I would grow tired of a bold and flashy paint scheme over time.

Until I got my YMB M4, 9 of my last 11 cars had been white and I had that same fear. Now I have that car and a red Jeep and love the bold colors. Although I still wonder if SPY would still be a little bit too bold for long-term ownership or certain social situations. it's also a problem that there's no great ways to see one in person before you order it. I saw one at M track days, but in a poorly lit room.

Crazy to realize there are more M3 CS's in the world than there are AY M3's. That means a disproportionate amount of AY F80s are in the NYC area because I see them all the time.

There's 1 AY M3 comp in the New Orleans area that I've seen, it was the last M3 to come through the local dealer, it was quite a beautiful car but my wife didn't like it so that was unfortunate lol
