1200 Mile Break In Service
I am currently sitting at about 800 miles on my 2023 g80x. I have a trip coming this weekend that may exceed the 300-mile round trip. This car is my daily, so by the time the weekend rolls around, I may already be at 900+ miles. So I thought I’d get the car serviced early. I called my local service center (the same dealer I bought the car from) the service Advisor said it has to be 1200 mile reading, no less. I proceeded to ask if it was okay to exceed the 1200 miles.
She wouldn’t answer because she “doesn’t want to give wrong answers” fair enough, I said can I come in at 1100 miles? “No 1200 only” I’ve read forums and watched videos of the same car being serviced under 1200 miles. Does this SA know what they are talking about, or is this typical? I can rent a car for the trip, but I’m just baffled the service center won’t service the car 100 miles before the break-in period. Any suggestions ? |

It’s completely ridiculous that you might have to rent a car after you just spent around $100k on a car.

Just had mine done at 1000 miles. I absolutely hate going to the dealer for anything and I just wanted it done sooner than later.

One other thought for you. Maybe call your sales advisor or the sales manager and ask for their help.
I once had an issue with the service department at the Audi dealership regarding our week old Q7. After they refused to fix it, saying Audi “wouldn’t let them”, I called the sales manager and told him he had 2 options. One option, and my first choice, was for them to fix it. The other option was for me to return the car and get a full refund. He then got involved and the car was fixed in a few hours. Your details are very different, but still might be helpful. Tell them that you have no plans to buy another car from them if this is how their service department is run. That should motivate them.

BTW, I'm in the SF Bay Area as well and had the service done at Stevens Creek. They absolutely didn't care that the car had under 1200 miles. I had both my break-in services done there (X5M, and now M3) No issues.

Made a service appoint to get the service done, dealer installed tint fixed and steering wheel replaced.
They rejected service, because the car only had 986 miles. I live an hour away(1 way) from this dealer too, was a bit annoyed. This was Chapman in Chandler. |

It's ok if you go over 1200, I wouldn't go past 1500, but I've had it done a couple times under 1000 miles. That SA doesn't have a clue. Find another SA, but I wouldn't worry about getting it done at ~1300.

If not, then sorry to go off tangent. WTF? I'm pretty sure I took both my M cars there well under 1200 miles to get the break-in service done. Matter of fact, I didn't even buy the cars there - I bought them both at BMWSF. I'd call and ask for a different SA. My SA's name is Chris R. |

I've got a 2003 RC51, Ti Sato pipes and other goodies. The sound, OMFG, it's intoxicating. Been thinking of selling though, sadly.

I’ll try to ask for Chris as you mentioned. May call Mountain View next.

Mountain View has been great to me, I plan on taking my car back to them when I have my break-in service performed. I was planning on doing a big road trip to break the car in, but instead will do it after it's broken in, I'll be able to enjoy the car far more that way.
