Hi guys, as some of you know I got my 24 Alpine White G83 COMP back in July. Well, as of yesterday, I switched it up and got a 24 Frozen White G83 COMP, and I have to say this is a COMPLETELY different car. Steering is tighter, suspension is smoother, and the sound system seems imuch much better. This car didn’t come with rear caliper covers as all the other M cars at the dealer but when I say this car seems like it’s about 75% built better than my last one I mean it.

I mean, you just lost several hundred pounds, gained a crap load of rigidity from the G83 to the G80 chassis alone, and then added all the comp stuff on top of it.

I think about 75% of it is the switch just from G83 to G80 based on my test drives.

Hi Needsdecaf how are you? They’re both G83 Comp convertibles. Even the brake squeal which was infuriating on the Alpine White, is almost non existent in this. It feels like it’s more bolted down so to speak.

Wait... what? You went from a '24 Alpine white G83 to a '24 Frozen white G83 and it's a completely different car?
Am I reading it correctly?

Wasn't there a software update that effected the steering feel, etc? Someone please correct me if I am wrong(which according to my wife I frequently am)

People are claiming 07/2023 changed a bit of the steering dynamics and some of the adaptive settings, but I don't really see it.

I think it's all just placebo lol.

I don't see how a car in the same model year, same trim, can feel like a completely different car. I think you're just overly happy that you have the car you actually want. I felt that way a little bit when I decided to swap for my original order SO G83, but after a week or two it's just the same car with better colors (that I'm definitely happier with having).

+1 on thinking it has to be a placebo effect. That would be a serious quality control failure if BMW produced two completely different driving MY24 G83s. BMW isn't known for major quality control failures (as has been reported with Tesla and some other manufacturers) Tighter steering, smoother suspension and a different audio system are major things, and I think it is quite unlikely that those differences are mechanical. It kind of reminds me of back in the day when you'd put a new cold air intake on your Honda and swear you picked up noticeable horsepower (yes, that was me in the early 2000s).

That all said, I'm happy you've got the car you really want, and even if the differences aren't there, you like the car and the drive better.

Yeah you guys might be right. Instantly hopped into this one and felt a difference, however, it just may be all in my head. Either way I’m all for it

Steering feedback, tightness on comfort mode, suspension feels much smoother, hell, even the sound system sounds better. It’s not like it’s been awhile or anything I immediately noticed the difference. If it is placebo I’m glad

It’s the frozen paint. Not here to debate, it’s science.

I had a 2021 G82 then a 2023 G82, both properly equipped with three pedals.

The steering was a smidgen better on the '23 but otherwise, they were identical in every way. Except for that dash rattle.

I'm happy for you, OP.

I know it's a personal preference thing but I am having a hard time with understanding the appeal of the "frozen," paint finishes. They just seem so lackluster and remind me of a car in primer. In addition, if need be, gloss finishes can be buffed whereas that is impossible with "frozen" or dull/flat finishes.

Do you really think they look good or is it more about just being 'different'?

I think they look great. I just care more about, as you said, upkeep, so I wouldn't get one. People that don't care as much as they think how good it looks get it.

I don't want to offend anyone here but...
I guess where I am coming from is that most would generally agree that the glossier an automobile finish is the better it looks. If it has a lot of orange peel which takes away from the shine most would agree that it doesn't look as good. Then take that a step further and look at a car that is covered with micro swirls and scratches and most would generally take to to a shop to have it buffed out and waxed (or these days ceramic coated). Take that to the next level with a car that was never been waxed and left to weather in the rain and sun and oxidizes to a dull finish and once again most would agree that that looks terrible and get it repainted. But paint a car dull like that from the factory and everyone thinks it looks great. Go figure!

Now I would go as far as to say that a dull "Frozen" finish would get my attention for being different but put a car with a high gloss finish next to it and I believe it would win every time.

I beg to differ. This frozen paint can be basically called a flat white I guess but in person it looks spectacular. Different lighting gives it a different look. My 2011 e93 m3 is a mineral white and it accomplishes the different color in lighting look much better though. The frozen 🥶is just something I prefer out of all the other color options. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That sounds interesting. I'm beginning to think I really need to see one in person before forming any real opinions on 'Frozen' finishes. I do know that a high gloss finish doesn't really show up as much on light colors and accentuates dark colors most. However, I think one needs to see different color high gloss and Frozen vehicles alongside one another to form an honest opinion.

I could maybe understand the steering and the suspension ... but the sound system?

Was it the same spec before?

That said, I agree with the others - it's definitely the frozen paint!
