Makes me wonder what some of us F8X owners (and ppl who just try the car out) don't figure out about the cars and maybe arrive at premature + wrong conclusions, and then go on to propagate these perspectives in forums and social media outlets everywhere. Besides RTFM, there should be WTFY too - Watch The F-ing YouTube. |

Pretty neat that they are adding this level of adjustment. Ok not fully understanding the need for road, sport, and track modes though when you have the M1 and m2 buttons. Are those modes just factory suggested settings that you could otherwise program in your two m buttons?

Very cool. The M steering wheels buttons is one of the things that I have wanted ever since I first saw it on M5. Love the ability to set tunings live like this.
For the instrument display, still confused as to when it will show sport (center speedo and tach) vs road (split speedo and backwards! Tach). Can the driver set it to always sport? Is it only here if u have it in M mode and with that optional package? Can you set it to an M1 or M2? Also what is disabled when sport display is on, active cruise and auto emergency braking? Seems like a flaw if you have to choose between a sporty display and safety features. |

I watched it two times to be sure but the way I understand it looks like this.
Road-Sport-Track (preset mods) 10 lvl traction system + drift analyser in track mode available with M Pro M1 and M2 button can be configured to any mix of adjustments ex: Track-Silent Exhaust-Comfort Steering-Sport suspension etc. There are probably a lot of possible configurations

You still get the road and sport M modes without the extra package, M drive Pro adds the track mode to the M modes (and also adds the M traction control, M drift analyzer, and M lap timer). It's pretty explicit in the press release, you could see what you get on the LCI M5 and M8 without the M Drive Pro portion.

There should be a simple auto (or dynamic) setting that will sense when you start to drive hard and vice versa. I miss the days where even the entry level bimmers were good to drive out of the box even without million configurable settings for everything.

That's true. But I'm wondering if the manual transmission is still on line with the new philosophy of the car, more GT and less sport car. Just a guess, I have to drive it to figure it out.

I didn't really understand one think:
What is the exact benefit of M Drive Professional APART from the 10 Stage TC? I understood a thing of 3 different modes (like track mode) are these excluded when not taking the M Drive Prof? But other than that I should be able to config all the settings also without M Drive Professional, correct ? |

Everything else shown in the video is available on the standard car. For the confused people: the M Mode button only changes the displays and safety assistance "features" like lane keeping assist, rear end collision warning, etc. and these have to be set using the M Mode button. The Setup button allows changing how the car performs and feels (engine, suspension, steering, etc) and the Setup options can be saved to the M1 and M2 preset buttons. |

I agree nothing beats the experience of driving stick shift in general but newer cars are designed based on automatics and the overall performance (power band, shift speed, gas mileage etc.) is optimized based on the auto transmission. When I had my Z4M Coupe (S54) it was stick obviously and I loved it. Then I test drove a stick E90 M3 and the car felt too big/bulky/heavy to be stick to the extent that it didn't feel much fun to me. With cars getting bigger & heavier with more electronics & technology I feel stick shift is not the perfect match anymore. I would still buy a stick shift car in the future for sure but not a brand new one. I keep thinking of a street legal Exocet project car for street & track fun. Now that'll be raw, light & connected enough were stick shift is a must for the full experience!

It's the same in the F92, so I can't see the tac in the HUD without looking down, finding the M mode button, and going into sport mode which is goin to change a slew of other display and assistance settings. Hopefully it's something they could address with an update, but we're already going a couple of years on iDrive 7 with M menus.
