M3 Competition / Xdrive or not?
Having trouble deciding whether I want the Xdrive or two-wheel drive competition. By all accounts I don't see a reason to not go all-wheel drive, but it just seems contrary to what s sports car should be ...
Any opinions or experience that you can provide? |

You can always put the xdrive into rear wheel drive mode when you feel like it. Or get the manual?

I know I can turn xDrive off, but I’d end up doing it every time I started the car. If you plan on tracking it or driving in the snow, I’d go for the xDrive. |

There is zero reason to get RWD m3 currently.
XDrive has RWD mode if you really want to be a purist. Weightsaving on an a car that is anyway too heavy, is negligible. |

Make sure you get that package that allows you to adjust the traction control in RWD mode if you plan on using it all the time.

I live in MI and got a comp rwd last year. I might be in the minority but i had zero regrets.
Manual vs Automatic, RWD vs Xdrive ends up being a personal preference and there are plenty of discussions going over the pros and cons. If you have time, go through this thread - https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1785246. |

The reason I purchased my car is because they finally made an all wheel drive version of the M4. I live in snowy Syracuse NY and mine is a daily so I need the all wheel drive cause I drive it all year long. Personal preference is always a factor which is why opinions vary. Good luck with your decision.

Experience of doing what exactly? Drifting? Donuts?
Sorry, that's just not an argument. Unless you mean it's pure experience of being slower off a red light than a golf GTi (or any random grandma in a diesel audi when its raining) or losing traction in a critical situation, or being slower on track (unless you are a pro race driver which, let's face it, none of us here are). Then yeah..pretty pure experience. Jesus, it's just five thousand bucks. |

Seems like every car review on YouTube mentioned they liked the RWD and it drove like it had traction of AWD.
Then the Xdrive came out and they pretty much all said, "No I was wrong. This is the car to buy." |

I wish they sold the Competition with a manual.

Touche.
To your point, you're right...there's really no reason to go with the RWD if you're going with the Comp. I'm not really sure why it even exists in their product portfolio. The drawbacks of AWD systems of past decades aren't really there anymore, and the impact on weight is negligible for a car as big and heavy as this. |
