Really appreciate the details m4ml . I consider myself a noob as well, so all of this helps. My first track day is next month, I'll give some feedback on my PS4S tires, it may help someone.

Thank you!

Nice to see another G87 here. I intend to take my M2 (stock everything) to Summit Point Main in 2 weeks. SCCA TT. Unsure what a good reference lap is but time will tell. This car moves!

Given your driving ability, I have an idea, but do not want to put unnecessary pressure

Never any pressure Go for it! Got the M Performance Analyzer (thank you again) so will record the runs.

The car will be driven sensibly, flyer laps, and back in as tires/brakes are OEM.

I will have the same approach, Lutfy. I will be driving very sensibly, first learning the car, the tires, and most of all my own ability (seeing if things come back to me). You got my PB beaten In a different lifetime, I was consistently in 21.9xx at the SPM on street tires, I won't be shooting for that any time soon with my car.

Given all is new with you and me, I am shooting for a comfortable 1:28 for the first event on PS4S. If I get to 1:27, I will surprised. I think you will hit 1:25 rather easily, may be low 26s if you are overly cautious. It takes me a while to adapt to new cars, I don't think you will have that problem.

Ran a 1:22 flat stock in damp conditions yesterday. I think high 19s or 20s is certainly possible. Will share videos after end of todays Time Trial session.

Car pulls on C8. My closest competitor who is 10th off is in a current model GT4. Goal is 1:20s will share official SCCA time later.

Brakes and tires are holding up extremely well (stock).

OMG!

I knew I was being conservative with my time suggestions, but I really wasn't expecting 22s Great driving, Lutfy, superb!

I hope you'll give us more details. How did the tires behave? Starting and hot temps, etc. Cannot wait for the vid

I am still going to stay very conservative with my first event, just getting to know the car, tires, the field, etc. I will be more than happy with 28s haha.

1:20.6 official G87 manual stock (brakes, tires, boost) record Summit Point main. Video coming soon. Did 151 at the front straight.

Time on RaceHero under SCCA, will share details/writeup. Brakes hold up very well for a stock car. Weighed in 3950lbs with me in it.

Official Laptime: https://racehero.io/events/wdcr-scca...lts/1073741897

G87 6 speed. OEM.
Weight: 3968 full tank of petrol with driver (215 lbs helmet on).
Summit Point Main: 1:20.6

Few takeaways:

1) Tire pressure best suited was 34-35 hot.
2) Driver setting:

a) Power: Efficient (anything more than that, I felt the pedal gets too sensitive when you want to manage the rear). Sport Plus is good for the street

b) Steering: Comfort. Anything more than that, its too sensitive. It takes time for car to take a set on stock springs.

c) Brakes: Comfort (I have no idea what Sport does).

d) Suspension: Sport Plus setting. I have not tried Sport but Sport Plus worked very well. BMWs are generally less rebounded but this setting worked very well on this somewhat smooth track.

e) Traction and DSC Off and the bar (0-10) set at 5. Take a set (it is a big heavy car) on the front and post apex, do not hesitate to get on the throttle. It shoots out like a BAT out of hell (the rear diff is magic).

Car had to be positioned and setup for a one lap flyer. First lap warmup then full send with enough gap between other cars (no traffic).

OEM brakes were fairly good with minor hint of fade full boogie after 20 mins in Instructor group. They would rattle in the paddock (hot) with some smoke (my E90 brakes caught fire from tire booger once).

Tires are great and falls off slightly after 3-4 hard runs but still manageable.

Pad wear was not bad. 50% f/r two days running in multiple sessions. You "have" to drive this car at the limit of cohesion otherwise very easy to overdrive and burn the outside tire. Keep on the edge, no more, no less.

Have pics of car on scale, tires etc. during impound.

Lutfy

PS: Video chasing C8 Z06 and GT3 coming soon.

I can watch this vid many times I can relate to the corners and speeds, so it is much fun.

You were really hustling through turns 3, 9 and 10 for sure. You also needed to feather the throttle and correct steering in T2, it appears, which is generally unusual for many cars, but these engines have so much torques, I felt the same during trackcross and I had to take very unusually wide arc.

I hope I can drive with your confidence in a couple of weeks.

You are right, T2 is my weakspot. I need to visualize and role play and next time correct it. With the FRS, I can gun the throttle (max speed on entry then bang on the throttle), I tried the same with the M2 and need adjustment. Try setting 6 out of 10 and then lower to 5 out of 10 on the traction M with DSC off. The diff is magic and puts power down like an AWD car.

I was really impressed. Also dont push too hard in 6-9 as tires take a beating and heat up. I left a little bit of speed there and few tenths would wear the tire up a lot. I dont know what stock front camber is on these cars but unlike previous gen M cars, it doesnt understeer much at entry so take a set and bang, use the rear grip and M dynamic to power out.

I tried to drive it in the rain with all traction everything off but realized in the rain setting it to 8/10 was much quicker. Kinda like ABS, use that system to your advantage.

Love this vehicle. Super comfortable on the street, when you are done, remove the sticker, put your helmet/bag back, play some 80s music, wear your cap and drive back in comfort.

For the money, I could not find a better $65K car (yours is CS and possibly a dream to drive!!). You always had the best engineered hardware

At VIR, I think this is a 2:02-03 car as is. Stock it fits into NASA TT4, I'll try to get the dyno done for compliance.

In all of my previous cars, T1/2 has been the same, turn in, smash the throttle. With the M3, during trackcross, I had to wait almost until nearly past T2 to be at 100% throttle. Although, I had the wrong tire pressure, and it was cold and slippery, with these cars we have to take the fundamentals of driving more seriously, like being gentle with the throttle

I had an interesting experience this past weekend as well. I was at the Performance Center for 1-day M School. We drove M2, 4 and 5. All of the cars' tire temps went up to 145-150F and to 49-50 psi with starting pressures at 30-32. The cars still performed well with a little drop in braking and cornering performance. I say this because maybe we don't need to worry too much about tire performance through T6/9, and just let it be. Although, after I drove the M2 on the timed autox course, the front left had thread separation and they had to change the tires before the next exercise

I also felt that the M2's front end bite was similar or same to that of the M5 for some reason. They gave so much confidence during turn-in, especially while trailing the brakes. However, at corner exits, they both struggled and required more steering input. I cannot compare it to the M4 as we used those only on the skidpads. The rat-race on skidpad with the M4 was a hoot

Best lap was my last lap of the day. Going into the day, I was hoping that I could manage a sub 2:00, but that's not happening with my current abilities. I think the car is capable of it in the right hands though.

On to Buttonwillow next weekend (with some new rear suspension work and more aggressive alignment)!

How did the iSweep 2000s hold up for the session? Any fading? Those are street/sport so I'm guessing slightly better than OEM. Any squealing for street driving?

For Streets of Willow, no issues at all. SoW is super easy on the brakes.

No squealing or brake noise at all on the streets.

For Chuckwalla on the other hand... They actually performed really well. No fading, good solid feel when warm. But, after a couple of sessions, they were very slick cold. And then there's the wear...

Buttonwillow - #1CW with Star Mazda
02:09.4 - m4ml - M4C - AWD - (Yokohama AD09 on Apex VS-5RS, Pagid RSL29, KWv4, -3.2 camber 0" toe F : -2.5 camber 1/4" toe R, Fall-Line Monoballs, SPL Rear Camber Arms - Rear Toe Links - Rear Traction Links, Carbahn Stage 2 ECU Tune) - video

Swapped out the iSweep 2000s for Pagid RSL29s. Upgraded the rear suspension to full SPL. Setup the alignment to be more aggressive and track oriented.

The AD09s had 15 heat cycles on them going into day 2 at Buttonwillow, and just didn't have the same grip. Otherwise, a fantastic tire!
