From Youtube, Throttle House and Savagegeese.
Harris is an emotional, visceral driver and will preview the soul of the car. Savagegeese when he puts it on the lift and gets nerdy is the best no-nonsense clinical review with no punches pulled. Love them both for those two perspectives.

He's hit or miss for me. I just think he expects all cars to drive like cars from the 2000's, and that's just not going to happen. Them putting a car on the lift is something I do appreciate though, because not many reviewers do.

I did once suggest SavageGeese since I appreciate their technical overview of the car.

And then someone pointed out they have a super biased hard-on for Lexus. Which I'm fine with.... the long review they recently did for the LFA was incredible.

"Chris Harris drives G80 M3/G82 M4" is the only review I am waiting for.
His Instagram picture caption kinda hints at it being pretty fun to drive, seems like he likes it.

Savage geese is great. Relaxing to watch.

My favourites are TH, Reid, Harris and also - Max at AutotopNL. He's a good driver and knows his stuff. Always a joy watching him floor every car on the Autobahn as well!

What would BMW do if they gave one of these reviewers the opportunity to review a new model early and the reviewer turned around and said in their review that the car is ugly and it sucks?

I'm looking forward to these reviews, but with a rather large grain of salt.

Plenty of reviews said that, check out thestraightpipes from a few months back as an example, throttlehouse too. Most people don't think it's ugly though when they see it, they just saw a pic and instantly hated it because it was such a change. Now people are seeing it for real and sentiments are changing so they are too; most people are fickle and just follow the norm, you see it in everything from fashion to food, cars are no different.

Whether it sucks or not we'll see, though the reviews we've seen that I've since been taken down would suggest they don't.

My comment was about how much I can believe that the reviewers are expressing their honest opinions, not about the car. I personally think the G8x looks fine and I'm sure it will be great to drive.

I see, sorry hard to take the true context of a comment with just text. I like some reviewers don't hold back, I'm excited for them to all drop.

For a brief while, I enjoyed his content and his reviews are technical enough to learn something from. But I quickly started to notice patterns that made me realize he’s more opinionated and subjective than other reviewers. He’s also overtly classist and exhibits a sarcastic, depressing, monotone, and defeatist attitude. In short, the guy sounds like he genuinely hates himself and his job. I’m just waiting for the review where he pulls a gun out of the glovebox and tries to end himself. You may just find yourself struggling to crack a smile after watching one of his horribly depressing reviews where he takes some borrowed middling specced sports car on public roads and drives it like a goon at 5/10ths its limits and begins to profess things that don’t add up because his own personal baggage is clouding his judgement.

Go check out the review where he shits all over an entry spec BMW 840i (entry spec is not representative of a manufacturer’s vision and not intended for review - the buyer accepts the compromise). He insinuated the entire 8-series platform was garbage based on his singular experience with this one entry level offering. Meanwhile, the rest of the automotive press had genuinely positive things to say about their experience in the properly specced M850i Xdrive (which in this spec is far superior by pretty much every conceivable metric to the similarly equipped LC500 he has a boner for and costs about the same price).

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of driving a Lexus ISF going all the way back to 2008, which was a special car in its time, you will find the current RCF, GSF, and LC are similar enough to the old ISF on a visceral level to dismiss them completely as something that feels new and fresh. Especially if you’ve already enjoyed NA V8’s from the 2000’s and have since moved on to torquier higher powered turbo motors. He also argued the 2020 Supra was better than the M2C in his review of that car (clearly because it was a Toyota branded car and for no other reason because that’s the baggage he carries). The only thing Japanese about the Supra is the bump steer and the wind buffeting… the rest of the car feels German. I could go on and on but this is getting long. He has no breadth compared to many other reviewers. I’ll wait for Chris Harris and the rest of the professionals who have access to properly specced press cars to provide their feedback.

Joe is just another influencer that gets bribes from BMW. His opinion isn't worth squat. I agree though, Throttle House are objective, offer an impartial view and are not afraid to be critical.

I'm genuinely curious.
In my case, since I buy my cars to serve the dual duty of daily driver and track toy, track reviews matter quite a lot. This dual use capability has been the main design intent for the M3(4) since its inception with the E30. Lap times are only metrics amongst many, but they do matter. What is mostly of value is track driving impressions, because they describe how the car behaves and feels at the limit. Discarding track reviews is discarding the spirit of what the M3(4) is all about.

And yes, if the C63 would have been consistently faster around tracks than the F8X and would have gotten praise as the better track car of the two, I would have gotten the C63 over the M4. But it was the opposite, hence why I have an M4 in my driveway. I am not a brand whore, I get what best suits my needs. It just so happens the M3/4 has been it for me for the last 20 years.

Yeah I can see a lot of what you're saying in his reviews. Not sure if that's an intentional vibe he's trying to give off, but the other guy in his videos has pretty much the same attitude. For me personally I just enjoy when they get the car up on the lift. The driving impressions are hit or miss.

As for the Lexus thing - that's a tricky slope because the Lexus cars (particularly the GSF and LC500) while aren't great performers from a numbers perspective, are a ton of fun to drive, both because of the NA V8 and also because of their steering/chassis tuning. I say that with experience having driven both on the road as well as on a track. They're not "fast"... but you'll have a blast driving them.

But I digress. I agree he's biased so I take his overall impressions with a grain of salt. Really just find value in getting the car up on the lift.

I understand this is mainly an English reading forum, but I am quite eager to read/watch the thorough reviews by Auto Motor und Sport, Autobild and Tim Schrick. These publications have never been scared to say it as it is.

I would add Automobile mag Andy Pilgrim's Pro Racers Take to that list.

Agreed. I purposely ignore anything Farrah and Demuro say. I put them in the same pile as Schmee i.e not even worth my time.

I am no Chris Harris, but can't wait to test drive it on the 13th! Keen to see the initial feel and how it really looks in person being an F82 driver.

I know Harris used to race but I can't be the only person that thinks his criteria of what makes a car great comes down to how well it drifts. Don't get me wrong as I like to watch his reviews and respect his opinion but as a person that drives his car daily to work and doesn't spend a lot of time drifting around corners I'm not sure how his opinion should carry any more weight that those of guys like Mat Watson or even Doug DeMuro who tackle what it's like to live with the vehicles on a daily basis.
