On that interior video the vast majority I can hear is fake engine sound, particularly as the revs climb. The sound signature is very obvious to me, as it's the same digital tone as my 330i.

It came in Thursday and immediately went out for a detail and photoshoot for the website. My understanding is that it's being driven around a good bit to get everyone familiar with the product.

Camera does not capture the full depth. The sound is richer and much less obviously synthesized than it was on the F8X.

Put a standard G20 4 cylinder 330i in sport made, WOT to redline and the ASD sounds very similar. In that video I'm hearing 30% engine, 70% fakery. Just a video though, as you say camera probably doesn't capture it.

I'm not going to complain. That sounds pretty decent compared to a stock S55.

Too bad it is not later in the Spring with warmer temps. I am surprised the Op got as much traction as he did with the summer tires on that car - even with the nannies still on. I live in New England now, about an hour south of Boston. Average temps have been in the mid to upper 30's - we are just starting to beak into the lower 40's. My F80 spends most of the time in the garage still, even when it is dry, just due to the cold temps and lack of traction on summer tires. March is such a crappy time to release a car like this, at least in the colder areas...

Car had zero issues with traction once the diff realized that it was its time to get to work.

But I agree, I've been taking my M2 CS out on the days its been 40+ because I can't keep myself out of the car, and this weekend happened to be really nice.

My point on the F80 and G80 has always been - They are like the M5's of old (in my mind the E39). The M2 is now the M3 of old, appreciate them for what they have become and do not be attached to the number label that they are given.

I like a decent sized M-sedan for family duties with 6MT - F80/G80 are just about perfect for that use.

Thanks to OP for posting impressions and the video.

Uncertain to really determine from such a short drive. But two observations:

1) I personally do not like the sound of the motor.
2) Do I hear rev hang between shifts?

I personally like the sound, but I also really like the S55 especially in M2 CS form.

Yes, I did notice that the rev matching maintains the revs even without throttle input. I believe this is a bit similar to what the ATS-V does in terms of driver aid, and was definitely noticeable because my F87 doesn't.

I also was a little confused as to what the conditions for the auto rev match were - at first I thought it was completely off and did it on my own, but then coming to one of the lights it did kick in without me changing any of the setup. I'd need more seat time to figure this out.
