What do you mean the tech dulls the manual experience? Are you talking about the rev matching?
Yes and these modern manuals are far easier to drive than manuals of old. I even saw a review yesterday of someone making the same observation in a G80 equipped with manual. Manual in the G series seems like an afterthought so I will get the automatic. For manual the 2nd gen BRZ will be my choice, sub 3k pounds, NA and high revving.

I considered the auto on this one myself after having manuals for most of my adult life. In the end I went with the manual. I expect it’s my last one.

My Subaru STI is manual, Corvette is A4, Raptor is auto and my Bronco is a Auto. 70% is in the subaru.

My G80 will be auto, because the competition is Auto. There has been some thoughts that the Comp's "extra" Horsepower isn't need. I will tell you the increase in Torque will make a huge difference on the track....
A side by side comparison will prove interesting...

I'm sure you definitely aren't. I would've actually held a little longer on building and ordering my g80 manual, but I had to pull the trigger because my previous lease was up and I wanted my next car to be new, 6MT, have decent luxury, and 4 doors for my family. The g80 fit that bill quite nicely

Thanks so much to everyone who has responded to the poll so far. The non-MT’s look to be taking a lead now with ~110 votes in.

I’m looking forward to some videos very soon that finally talk about the transmission in the G8x cars while I wait for mine to come over on the boat.

Easier to vote for non MT's.

They have the free hand.

Just wait until the AWD G80/82/83 is released later this year with the improved times, then the poll will skew drastically to 8AT.

Not so sure. People ordering the MT aren’t after the fastest lap or quarter mile times. We’re already down over 70lb tq compared to the rwd competition.

Not everything is about outright speed.

Said no one... the Nissan Altima is also awd now.

The only reason to get an awd automatic m3 is so you can compete against a Tesla in 0 to 60.

I was reading an article and they were interviewing one of the developers of the new M3.

"We made the M3 awd and gave it more power so some owners can have bragging rights."

"We made the M3 Pure for the enthusiast; the ones that put the driving experience at a premium."

Nothing slows me down on a track like my pathetic attempts to heel/toe.....but it's infinitely more rewarding.

I will miss my CS on the track (the one and only auto I plan on ever owning), but can't f***ing wait to get back in a 6MT.

That side doesn't disprove my point. Very likely, without the AWD variant, manual take would still be 12%. AWD sales will overwhelmingly come from cannibalizing RWD comp sales.

As someone mentioned above, you're on a car enthusiast forum. The numbers on the poll won't represent the general population.

people bragging for 0-60 (0-100) times and track lap times will for sure go with AWD ZF or even RWD ZF.
Automatic cars are faster since years, nothing new.

MT is for the experience and driving fun for people who like it. Even if it had the same HP and NM it would still be slower, what a surprise.

I couldn't care less about the less HP...and if I really want more HP i just smack a Stage 1 tuning on it, done.
I personally never understood all this tuning stuff, these car's come with a lot of power from stock and anyway way too much power for normal streets.

If I don't track the car I don't need an acceleration of 2.5 sec to 100, low 4s is perfect for the feeling. And that's what is about imo, the feeling you get getting pulled by a HP monster like this.

Unfortunately not something that BMW will value. All they will care about is seeing how actual sales compare to that estimated 12% number.

What I hope they do realize is how the MT was a deciding factor in purchases for many. It's not a guarantee MT owners would still buy a Comp M3 if BMW took away the manual.

If BMW gave a hoot what I find interesting, I’d be amazed. The poll is not for BMW. It’s for us here in the forum.

It really does look like it’s a 50/50 split. It’s hard to believe that’s true but 132 votes say it is.

Nearly 150 people have voted now and the 6MT is actually now got more votes by 10%.

Thanks, again to everyone who has voted and provided feedback on the question.
