Which type of transmission does your daily driver have?

Do you have a manual or non-manual transmission in your daily driver?

Let’s see how this group compares to the usual MT uptake.

Please vote in the included poll

6MT for me, no questions asked.

F80 had a 30% take rate (United State) so M3 owners like MT. Keep in mind dealers rarely have MT in stock, so people had to order in many cases to get a manual.

The ratio here is a bit biased I think. People like fun driving and MT are more likely to vote here in this forum lol.

Ya, I expect many more MT folks in an enthusiast forum but there’s quite a bit of back and forth about which is better in various threads so I thought it might be nice to have a gauge of the breakdown here.

Thanks for responding.

Right, but I’m asking the people in this forum and so far it’s not the same picture

You don't say...lol.

It's not just manuals by the way. Forum members are not a fair representation of the BMW M buying community in many ways. Many F80 owners I know outside of these forums don't know what the term "F80" even refers to. We are the most obsessive of the global M buyers group.

It's still a noteworthy poll...need to know who we are arguing against when every thread devolves into a "manual vs. automatic" debate.

The results so far are pretty much an even split. Even here I sort of expected a noticeably lower % of manuals.

Hopefully more people will respond to the poll.

Thanks. This is really interesting.

My daily is a Ram 2500. My current fun car is a Civic Type R which is a manual. For general daily driver duties my choice would be non manual now, but 15 years ago I was manual only.

With 88 votes in, it’s a near even split. Very interesting.

Auto for me since it will be my primary car for now and apparently with all the tech in the M3, it's dulls the driving experience with a manual. For a manual car I plan to pick up one of the 2nd Gen BRZ's in the future, something light- weight, high-revving and analog.

What do you mean the tech dulls the manual experience? Are you talking about the rev matching?

I'm currently debating on 6MT vs Auto myself. I would enjoy relearning and just rowing my own gears again, but my family would never be able to use it and it may screw them/me over when I need a quick car swap for whatever reason.

Meh.

I've never owned an automatic car, I've daily driven manual my whole life. That being said the g80 I'll be ordering will be AWD and thus have to be auto. It's the end of an era.
