My opinion is that the kink was just reinterpreted for the 4 series, not that it was removed. But I agree with others that say it seems removed as historically it had a very distinct look, but that look does work well with sleek sloped-rear coupes

I far as I've been trained. Every BMW has it in a way. Its that the rear window will curve back and head towards the front of the vehicle before ending. It doesn't just go down.

DenverBMW, Germanauto wasn't referring to you when he asked where are the driving reviews of the M3/4. He is simply stating his frustration that these vehicles have not been tested by the "auto journalists." And I agree with his frustration.

I'd think you're okay with a 6MT driving in sport plus at least.

Happened for both M5 and M8 users, and it looks like the G20 was affected to, so I would assume the G8x would be:

I'm all for less pops, burbles, farts and snorts. Just sounds damn tacky and cheap.

How was i wrong about the hofmeister kink?

agreed, it's still a Hofmeister, albeit stretched and distorted to meet car lines.. You're on point.

What distortion?
Lens distortion, looks as if a wide angle or fish eye lens was used for filming? I am trying to get a picture of the proportions of the car and the distortion makes it difficult. Its fine, I prob have to see it in person to really get an idea
Oh yea! I filmed on GoPro for the M4. Going to upgrade to a proper camera soon.
Here also is an option with gopro to remove fish eye effect: https://gopro.com/help/articles/How_...;date=20161112 in case you are planning to make any other videos and want to keep using the gopro.

Yep, some of the responses are pathetic. At least he's contributing to the forum in some ways, unlike some others.

I appreciate you creating content for us and attempting to understand our perspective.

And as somebody else pointed out, my comment about the lack of driving reviews was just a broad statement. There's been nothing in traditional auto mags or Youtube yet.

It sounds better than I thought it would. I remember being turned off at first about the f80 after listening to e90s for years but it got better over time. What do f80 owners say about it?

I think these walk-around vids are pretty good. The hood contours add a lot to the overall visual appeal.

Since everybody apparently LOVES constructive criticism, maybe we can dedicate the next 2-3 pages of this thread to lecturing Hof-kink expert/crybaby about the difference between "your" and "you're" and how/when to use. That would add about as much value to the thread as the comically hostile hof-kink rant. Hang on, gotta add some emoji's to keep this cutsie! 😂🤣🥰✌️

That's exactly what i was referring to... you can be told to believe something or you can figure out yourself objectively if you think that seems right or not.

Personally on the 4 series i don't see the kink.. of course changing the definition, looking upside down or drinking enough you can end up seeing anything you want

The majority of this forum is the old man yells at cloud meme, that's why they love Porsche so much as it's safe and never changes. I love any content I can get seeing as BMW are blue-balling us.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I said people should wait until the production cars are given to people 'on the road' before making judgements on sound.

All the press previews were done on track only. Why? Because they can get away with using cars without OPF filters and cats. They do it all the time at press events. I remember speaking to one of the BMW reps at Goodwood who was looking after the BMW M Performance show car where he admitted half the reason the M Performance exhaust sounded so good at the event (an M2 at the time) was because it had the cat removed.

Never judge a product before it's in the wild. Having worked in Marketing for a number of years I know the crap they pull when it comes to press releases, review samples etc. Now we see it for what it is and it's basically an S55 sound. Also take note my European friends, this is how it sounds without an OPF. It will sound even worse by the time we get it.

It angers me when people defend getting rid of the "holfmeister kink" with "the kink was just reinterpreted" is a load of crap. For example If you turn a triangle into a square, it's not a triangle anymore, can't tell me the triangle is "reinterpreted"
