you can't charge a mark up if people won't pay it. Example, the RAM TRX is marked up $10-20K and there's a backlog of at least 20 people waiting at the store by me.

it sucks for the normal person who is smart enough to not pay mark up but there's nothing we can do until supply frees up

Yep, this is capitalism at work. If supply does not equal demand then prices move accordingly. We need to remember that the S in MSRP is suggested otherwise it would just be MRP.

One other note, the people that complain about dealer markup should also be complaining about dealer discounts if they really think everything should be sold at MSRP. Otherwise they are just asking for price protection.

im not planning on purchasing this year anyway so i might as well hold off until BMWNA comes out and saying there is absolutely NO chance that the G81 is coming to the US. then again, im not holding my breath either.

I was at my dealer over the weekend and he said BMW Germany was aware there was some pent up demand for the G81 and was considering doing a limited run for the US.

I told him in clear terms that I was willing to sell my soul for one

Of course not, that's just the word on the street at the dealer

BMWNA has considerable pull, there is a chance we'll get one

Blank

I don't see it being limited. If cert costs are as much as they say they are they're not going to waste their time with only a couple of hundred units (I say that as a number because that's what I think of as limited when I think of bmw, probably even less).

I was thinking about some thing the other day. There was a study done some years ago by Mercedes where they took a look at the other cars that their customers had. If I remember correctly they found that wagon owners owned more cars then any other type of car owner. For example E class wagon owners owned more cars than S class owners. And that says some thing considering the S class was and still is their flag ship. The study also showed that wagon owners tended to be wealthier than others. They took those findings to suggest that if they can use a wagon to introduce people to their brand that could very well lead to those customer purchasing more cars from them.

OK so fast forward to 2021. Now you have two other major German manufacturers (three if you include Porsche and their cross turismo) Who are offering high performance wagons. Assuming the logic still stands from that Mercedes study, one could make the argument that customers who are denied a bmw wagon may go to one of the others and be swayed to replace a bmw they already have with something from the competitors, in addition to the wagon.

Could be something there.

Buyers of the MB E series wagon had the highest income levels of any car buyers up until a few years ago. Higher than Porsche, Ferrari, etc. Haven't seen recent numbers, but it probably still holds true today.

We currently have two wagons, a Volvo V90 for my wife and 328i for my son. Will swap out the V90 at some point for something faster since I hate driving it. Have thought about an RS6 or Sport Turismo, but would prefer a G81 over both of those.

Well I'm no help, I didn't hold my breath and got an A6 allroad instead. I think even more than a m3 touring I'd had been ecstatic for a m550i touring.

I wrote to BMW Canada, here is there response.

Thank you for contacting BMW Canada.

Although we share your excitement for BMW’s upcoming models, we cannot provide any information about future releases, including their release dates and options, until they have been officially announced on our website. Please note that it has not yet been released as to whether or not the BMW M3 Touring will be available in the Canadian Market. BMW Canada continues to monitor customer preferences and is prepared to adjust the product portfolio accordingly in future models.

So now that we have confirmed no G81 in the US shall we talk about alternatives? I know I know - no ICE, no manual, no RWD. But I'm pretty sure we were never going to get either a manual or RWD even IF we got an M3 Touring in the US.

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo looks like it will be the smallest performance wagon available in the US (vs. Panamera, E63, RS6) and while the price is likely to be very high I think this could be a fantastic contender for wagon lovers.

Launch supposedly in early March.

Yes especially if the tyres could rotate without scraping off the inside of the wheel arches.

More than anything, the wagon (whether this render or the covered up variant up top) really makes the car look decent. The elongated greenhouse provides a better presence and balances out the hood and grills. The rear quarter fender/beltline junction tapering hard into the D pillar region also make the rear bumper RV pop-out look proportional and natural.

I am starting to wonder if BMW told the designers to come up with some new grill options. The options were displayed on concepts and a particular wagon iteration happened to have this front/rear bumper mix. They all said, yes, that looks great and just ordered it put on all the other variants.
