Hey guys recently I've had this problem of the passenger restraint system being faulty and dinging off. Any ideas of why this is? I'm not sure if there's another forum about this but here's what I see.

Is there something heavy on your seat? this will trigger the sensor, even if its like 6-7 pounds.

[Perfect softball for a classic forum mother-in-law joke...]

Sorry I can't be of more help. Unfortunately looks like a dealer visit.

take it to the dealer. Or like others have said if you are resting things on the seat it will set it off.

This has happened to me on a previous vehicle I leased from BMW a few years ago. Unfortunately the only solution for you is to take to the service center. There they will need to fix it. For me it was a sensor I believe.

I received a similar message in my 550 in the past. Took it to the dealer, they said it was a sensor in the passenger seat which in order to change required them changing the whole seat bottom cushion, which they had to order and took three weeks to arrive…so I'd make sure they put you in a nice loaner for the time being

I usually have my buddy or girlfriend or even just my Sony camera in the passenger seat

Why would you need a loner in this scenario?

I would imagine the vehicle is still drivable (no passengers in that seat for safety's sake)....they could just disconnect the seat sensor to turn off the audible alarm, and the dealership would notify you when the part came in. At least that's what happened to me on a past vehicle when a similar instance occurred....

A dealer can't expect you to drive around without a passenger in the front seat for the duration it takes for the part to get in. If it's the sensor that decides if the seat is occupied or not leading to the airbag being deployed or not then this would potentially become a liability for the dealer. Which is why they'd probably give a loner till the part comes in. Of course that's assuming all the above as in that's the sensor's functionality

I am having same issue. Took it in. They said blown fuse. Gave it back to me. Worked for a few days and same thing now. Passenger seat can't be moved as well. Need to take back in

Little update about this, it hasn't happened since! I haven't gotten a warning or anything I have yet to take it into the dealer

I mistakenly let BMW detail one of my cars. (NEVER DO THIS BTW). They got water or cleaner in the belt buckle insert on the passenger side. That shorted "something" and caused this same error.
