I for one could care less about BMW dropping the multi-colored console model monogram, as a matter of fact I always thought it looked cheesy & cheap.

There's already an M emblem on the steering wheel and dead pedal (and I'm sure there'll be at least one on the new curved display somewhere at all times), an illuminated M3/M4 emblem on each front head rest, and an embossed M on the console shifter.

How many more do we need?
Yeah, it just looks worse with a blank panel.

Extended is a bare minimum for this car, I ended up switching out KO full for one of the other colors that has extended. BSM matches up with anything they offer albeit KO was my top choice. $2300 is easier to spend when you don't have extended but when you have extended I could not justify spending it.

What really makes the center console look bad is all that cheap shiny black plastic....

That's pretty lame, IMO. Shrinkflation and cost cutting for sure... having KO door cards in my 2022 makes the interior pop.

Not great for the customer unless you consider fewer people ordering extended, seeing all the cheap plastic surfaces and then regretting not going full.
Oh for sure it's profit driven. I just think that even on the extended it sets itself apart from a base 3 series and makes it a little more unique and special. I didn't get full leather on mine but probably would now just to have that option back and then some obviously. I know when financed it's not much more a month but I just look at it as mods I could put on the car.

Unfortunately all manufacturers are doing this though. Optioning us to death. Even buying a new truck these days they have a hundred options. Yeah it starts out at X price but after you add even middling features your in it.

Crazy.

Similar things have happened in mid year production with other cars. In the X7, I know the 3rd row trim went from matching to black plastic, the third row cargo cover and sunshade went from alcantara to the anthracite fabric crap, etc. They're just don't their best to spread the materials they have to the more noticeable areas (and/or save them for the better cars/options).

well, it's not a cost cutting thing. Well ok maybe also.
But I think the main reason is to "push" people to buy full leather.
More $$
Because people before couldn't justify going full leather for "only" the dash, now they have more reason.
I went anyway full leather on pre LCI, because I wanted the orange lower dash :>

If they did that to get people to buy full leather... i support that. Even pre LCI, extended leather looks way to cheap for an 85K car.

With iDrive 8, aren't we getting less leather anyway? The screen takes up a majority of the dash. Even if the back piece is cheap, no one can see it

The top part of the dash is all leather when opting for Full (with nice stitching running across), even behind the big screen, so I don't think so....

Hi all, new to the forum

now I am in a dilemma

Im waiting for my allocation (so I still have time to decide) and I wanted PB on Kyalami interior but now with the doors being black Im not sure if I should switch to Fiona red to still get the door panels matching the seats color.

what you guys think?

Just get full leather and then problem solved for the KO interior.

If you like the Superman combo, can't go wrong with PB & FR though.

good point, I was just looking at the PB thread and saw a couple Fiona reds in there and it grew on me with red calipers for the contrast...

its only been 2 weeks since I got into the wait list (Jul 30th) and Im so anxious, I am aware that probably I need to wait another 6-9 months just for my allocation. I just hope I get a 2023, love those anniversary badges.

Interesting...
Just a wild guess, but I wonder if these are people who are triggering a lot of traction control events...

That's the only way I can see them wearing out that fast. Unless they're just completely dragging, which I doubt.

I get their thinking behind it from a business perspective, but if it either black door panels or full leather...I'd be annoyed.

I have KO and purposely didn't get the full leather because I didn't want the orange around all the buttons and glove box, but if that meant not having the door panels orange either, I don't know what I'd choose.... probably another color.

Isn't the dash the same on full and extended if you get the executive package?

No. With the Executive pkg., the dash is covered with SensaTec, but when you opt for full leather, the dash gets covered in leather.

Definitely. My service writer has 112k on his F80 CCBs, and they have 7mm left on the original pads. Well worth the money. Especially, since the rears are going quick on these cars, as much as traction control is kicking in.
