OEMs are seeing that people are taking advantage of the current market and started restricting such transactions. It might not be far until BMW joins the wagon as well.

But that's only my opinion.

So, to the OP, I'd suggest ordering your car as soon as an allocation comes up, and then you can reevaluate the fate of the F80 whenever it comes in.

I don't know if "LA" means L.A. or Louisiana, but here where I am, when you buy out a lease, you pay sales tax on the payout amount, which can be substantial in some states.
Los Angeles. Good point. I didn't take the sales tax into consideration, but I suspect that would offset the income tax I pay at the end of the year. Maybe?

Chip shortages will continue until 2023+. Toyota just announced 40% production cuts moving forward so used car market will stay up.

My infiniti lease is ending in feb and dealer is buying back at no cost to me (I'm way over on miles). So I effectively saved $4500 from my entire lease cost.
I'm in the process of ordering the m3 As we speak so my family with be 1-car for now.

Basically the car industry will be in the same shape in the next few years as it is now.

it's a horrible wait. I'd rather get my car one month early. plus i might lose the current prices as time goes on.
Holy Smack!!!

What year is the RS3 and how many miles?
2018, 40k. yeah pretty crazy.

C) Buy my F80 and keep it for another year?
D) Look for other alternatives like M340 or something similar?

I hate paying over MSRP and that option is probably out of the question. One thing I'm definitely planning on doing is buying the F80 and selling it for profit in the hot sellers market, but it has to be replaced by something else. And if I wait for another year, maybe the market won't be as hot when it's time to sell.

Too many variables and options. Who's got a crystal ball?
Being in that industry the semiconductor shortage for autos will extend well into 2022. Don’t expect that to get any better soon

Test drove a Giulia Quadrifoglio last week. 81k MSRP. They were asking for $25k over MSRP. $1750 per month with 7k down. 12k miles for 36 months.

Is anyone insane enough to pay anything close to that!?? Who would pay that much for a "previous generation" car like that??

That's crazy. I bought (now gone) a new Stelvio Quad for $71,000 in 2019 and sticker was $87,000 and that was with almost no effort.

That's M5C money... absolutely insane. Especially when your overpriced Q4 will be collecting dust atop a dealer lift for three months every year exorcising electrical demons.

here in the bay area folks are paying 5-10K markup on a Toyota Tacoma! go figure

if you want an M3 at MSRP the only way is to get allocation now, it will take at least 4 months to get the car. anything off the lot will have markup, especially in LA
