The normal 4er both in base and Msport version doesn't interest me at all. This real M is growing on me. It's the same that happened with the 2er coupé....the normal and M performance version are completely indifferent to me (and that's why I bought the M140i), but the M2 is something completely different and cool.
Let's see it in real life, but for sure, BMW is going to be considered (by me) only as far as true M versions. Below it's not worth it. |

Everything is a matter of opinion, but this (both the G22 and G82) just doesn't work for me. It's not just an optical problem. The design is wrong in principle.
The looks of a car should represent what's inside and form a harmonious unit where all pieces fall into place. We are now slowly moving into an electric or at least hybrid era of motoring. A futuristic design similar to the i8 would make way more sense. There's no structural technological reason for the inclusion of these huge grills, especially on the basic model 420i (probably unavailable in the States) with a 4 cylinder engine. What BMW forgets to mention when they talk about their older models with similarly long kidneys, is that they used to be a neccessity at that time to cool down the engine. If they planned to put an E60 style V10 engine in the G82, then maybe the kidney size would have been warranted. Instead we'll get a straight 6 for the M4, later we'll get the i4 and possibly hybrid versions of the G22 that will make the kidney grills stick out more than ever before. If it's not functional, then it has little business being on a car that should be designed around driving experience. That's why I've always loved the E92, especially the pre-lci non-m-sport version. The G22 and (judging from this leak) the G82 are all over the place. Both cars seem to have a muscle car front attached to an elegant gran tourer rear. The marketing department, in their attempts to create an imposing front and give the car more presence in front of young ADHD stricken audiences, took over and created something that a true car enthusiast, especially someone who cares about the whole package, shouldn't condone. The only good news about this for me is that I don't regret ordering a brand new F36 gran coupe. I just never thought I would ever call its design "subtle". |

I would have love to been a fly on the wall in the meeting room when the board approved this design.

People can have their opinions but car designing is a thankless job 90% of the time. If you go the safe route, people will call you boring and conservative. If you go bold, you are called an outright failure where sales will drop Covid-like 80%. I think the vertical in-your-face grill looks modern but still anchored to the past. This is super exciting times to see all our favorite models we re-imagined. |

You've called it squarely! The design team can't remain stuck in the past. I'm glad BMW have taken this bold approach. As far as I know, the fascia design of the unveiled 4er and the leaks on this M3/4 has quite a number of people talking and taking notice, which is good for the brand. |

If the M5, X3M, M8 are a gauge of whats coming in the new M3/4, everyone will get in line and accept the grille. It’s going to be ripping quick and fun. And for the millionth time, I like it

ya. wasn't sure if that was real or not. I was initially looking at the front end which wasn't mounted on a car. Looks like two threads were merged.
