11/2023 update

I took my G82 in for run-in service this week and the dealership installed 11/2023 firmware. Came from firmware 03/2023 and it just seems less glitchy overall. Seems to have fixed Apple CarPlay GPS problems also. 2024 G82 6MT.

Interesting that 11/2023 is already available. I'll see if I can get my dealer to upgrade it when I take it for break-in.

GPS issues were solved in 07/2023.

Can you verify you can still quickly double-tap M1/M2 to get into MDM/2WD settings without a delay on the 2nd press?

Cool thanks for the heads up. I usually get these updates fairly quickly via the app so should arrive soon.

I’ll try to check the M2 / MDM delay tomorrow. I didn’t notice any other UI changes at this time.

Double tap of my M2 activates MDM with no delay. I’m RWD so unsure on X-drive mode changes.

Has anyone noticed any improvement on Android Bluetooth connection on iD8?

In the past few weeks I lost the audio only when on a phonecall (23 G80). I followed all the instructions on unpairing, undatine my phone Bluetooth, rebooting iD8, and repairing my phone. The issue with no audio on bluettoth continues.

Everything else work and connect without any issues it is only phonecalls using Android.

I paired my other phone an iPhone 13 without any problems the audio works fine using the phone.

Wondering if this new update may have a fix for the android Bluetooth problem. I am un 3/23.45 version.

I don't want to update if no one has noticed any difference.

Thanks.

Good to know. Mine has to go in soon for its 1200 mile service. I’m still stuck on 3/23 and it completely locked up on me a couple times then appeared to reboot. Not sure what OS ID is built on but seemed like a kernel panic and reboot. Im hoping a software update will fix it.

iDrive 8 is based on a highly customized non-descript distro of Linux. 8.5 and 9 are based on Android Automotive (also Linux-based).

Only idrive 9 is android. 8.5 is still Linux. Idrive 8 runs on headunit hu4/mgu21 which is an 4 core intel atom cpu and 8GB RAM. 8.5 is using hu5/mgu22 which is an 8 core snapdragon SA8155P cpu and 12-16GB RAM. Idrive 9 is only compatible on HU6 hardware, I’m not sure what cpu it has. Possibly it’s the same as the HU5 is pretty powerful and the snapdragon being ARM can also run the android OS that 9 is using.

Android’s underlying OS is Linux.

Technically correct, but iDrive 8.5 and older is a fully non-AOSP Linux distro while 9+ are Android Automotive, which utilizes a Linux kernel, but a very different OS on top of that.

iDrive 7 has its own set of updates, 11/2023 should be available soon if not already. It's a slow roll out over-the-air like every other one. Just gotta be patient until your car is "chosen"

This is done for a couple reasons.

1) So it doesn't overload the CDN with everyone trying to download the update at the same time

2) So it can be sent to a few people at a time so that they can find bugs/issues with the rollout that doesn't affect every single person.
