Ah, I think I know why you hears your so much. I have K band disabled. 99.9% of LEO in California only use Ka band or Lazer. With K band off, I hear nothing.

That'll do it. K-band is still very much in use around me.

Thats a bummer. Im in socal. The only think using K are door sensors into stores and speed signs that show you your speed. LEO wise they all seem to use Ka and or the Laser gun only.

Same here. In all the years I've ran a detector in CA, 95% of the time is Ka band and very rarely is it laser.

My wife has the R7 and I have the R8. Only difference I have personally seen myself is the range is better on the R8. I’ve seen this a couple of times where a cop usually sits and my R8 goes off earlier than when I’m using the wife’s car.

If you’re not that much over the speed limit, the R7 will still give you enough time to react.

Worth the price difference, not sure. Maybe wait for a sale and pick up an R8 at a discounted price.

Whichever way you go, Check out Vortex Radar and follow his settings. I did this for both RDs and I get only a few false alerts so the RS is very quiet overall.

Thanks. Ive watched vortex videos and reviews and plan on doing that. I havent seen any big sales on the R8 except like $15 off in Amazon. Dont know if I have the patience to wait till black friday…lol. Might just pull the trigger next wk if nothing comes up for labor day sales

Definitely recommend adding the blendmount and mirror tap for the R8. Took me ~20-30 min and now I don’t think I could ever have another RD without that setup

Agreed! I have never done this previously but seen the BlendMount on a colleagues car with the Mirror Tap and it's a very clean install, looks great. I was surprised at the price of the BlendMount but do plan to do it in the future.

Does the blend mount hang lower and block ur visibility while driving ? I know the R8 face is a bit taller than the R7 and wondering if its going to be an issue. I kinda like permanent ones that are high up that I can quickly pull the visor down to cover it.

I can send pictures tomorrow but I don’t notice it affecting visibility although technically it does some. When I had the radar on the suction cup centered under the mirror ~3 inches. It was noticeable to where I wouldn’t want to run it like that the whole time (was waiting on blendmount delivery). Unsure of a diff between 7 and 8 visibility wise. I’m not familiar with the permanent ones but if they’re positioned way up and look clean (wires included) you can go wrong with either. Do you mean cover it from people seeing it or blocking the front sensors or what?

yeah I would never do a blend mount. 100% it kills visibility for me. I'm tall and it's directly in my line of sight. Hell, the MIRROR blocks my view.

Thanks. Yeah I think BIGW0RM had a pic of the permanent install. I got it from Ebay for like $10. I was going to install it high up near the driver or passenger windshield and see if I can close the visor down to cover it incase I get caught or park the car so people cant see it

I bought it I don’t really use it. I don’t even drive too often and I just use Waze.
Also, I ended up selling my car, so I’m gonna be selling some other parts in the next week.
