Is disabling ASD reduced "noise" levels in the cabin? Is it literally quieter?

Thanks!

Yes, it "disables" the fake engine sound pumped in via the speakers so you will hear the actual engine/exhuast.

Although I'm still not convinced it turns it off 100%

Gotcha. Thanks for this. I will totally understand if this questions is difficult to answer, but I'm wondering if you could roughly estimate what the overall reduction in cabin noise as a result? Would you say 10% or so? Thanks in advance.

Honestly for me, I didn't notice much of a difference at all. Granted, I have a full aftermarket exhaust...

If your exhaust is stock, I would say 80% noise reduction. It was such a change that when I turned it off before I'd modified the exhaust (valve controller first, and then Dinan x-pipe), it was too quiet...turned it back on until I did the mods. Now turned it back off. Much better.

Out of curiosity, what kind of difference does it make in comfort mode with stock exhaust?

I did the software update today and it restored my ASD. When I went back in with BimmerCode to code it off again I noticed there are two ASD sections (hadn’t noticed before). One is just basic ASD. The. Below is a section for M3/M4 that has separate options for Startup, Burbles, etc. what has everyone done with the additional ASD options? Have you also turned those off?

I turned all of them Off in expert. If I only turn Off the basic ASD, it doesn't do anything (= I can still hear the fake sound )

I turned all off and deactivate the code, but if I turn the engine to sport mode or sport plus, the sound comes out again, need to switch off manually.

Does Bimmercode allow coding the exhaust button so it is always on/off at car startup ?
My M3 is still on the way but I'm already exploring the options

Are you talking about the center console button? I believe that stays in the way you set it, either on or off. M1/M2 are able to turn it on or off. You can set them to be off, and press it off in non-M1/M2 efficient mode, and it should just always be off. Otherwise it's always on.

The button controls the exhaust valves. If the valves are closed, the car will be a bit quiter. When the button is lit, it allows the valves openess to be modulated in order to improve exhaust sound and make burbles.
The button also controls the fake sound, not just the valves. The valve setting is controlled by the throttle mode in iDrive and the fake sound is also linked to that. If you have everything in Sport Plus and you press the button it will close the valves and turn off the fake sound. I installed a valve controller to separate that function and coded ASD off with bimmercode but there is still some fake sound unless I press the M Sound Control button which does turn it off. Bimmercode now also has separate toggles for some of the other sounds like burbles, haven’t played with that yet.

Not correct. Fake noise is always on unless you code it permanently off.

None. Get an ethernet ENET adapter w/ a USB-C or Lightning (Depending on your phone connection) to ethernet adapter. It's much much quicker and more reliable of a connection than BT.

Any of the ENET OBD to Ethernet ones should work fine. You just need the right Ethernet adapter. Either get a Lightning one (MFi certified) if you're on a 14 or older, or any Ethernet to USB-C adapter if you're on a 15.
