I just ordered the adapter for bimmercode because even though I have an exhaust that's a bit louder than stock (Schnitzer back box- can't go full system cuz stupid EU emission and noise regulations), the ASD is so loud that unless I have all 4 windows down I have trouble distinguishing between what's real and what's not. I'll let you guys know if coding it off normally through BimmerCode works

Yes! That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I can’t distinguish what’s real or not either. Super annoying

Follow the activation code method (I posted it to this thread) vs just the toggle switch. It was a dramatic difference for me.

Yeah I'll try that once the adapter arrives Monday hopefully. Very excited to see what happens!

Yeah I find it so weird that we don't have an option to turn off ASD (without closing the valves that is). I don't mind it being 'less loud' as long as I can hear real sound and not having to doubt what's real and what's fake

Thank you for posting this. It worked. It is odd that you need to take this extra step, ie that just toggling it off isn’t enough. But now that embarrassing artificiality is finally where it belongs: gone!

I just did it and my god it sounds so much better. Basically no difference from efficient to sport plus inside but now at least when I crack a window I can hear real noise and it's beautiful!

Exactly my impression as well. Just what I was looking for.

Finally had to chance to try and code it with the instructions given by jimbethesda -thank you. I did notice it did something and hear less of the fake speaker noise. I can’t tell if it’s still there or my car sounds louder because of the catless downpipes!

Yes. I did it a couple of weeks ago and would not go back.
The ASD downshift noise was driving me nuts.

First thing I did when I got my F87, first thing I’m going to do with my G80.

I can confirm it works for id8. Just did it this morning just following the steps here. No expert mode or anything else needed.

To be sure, you followed the instructions that was posted in this thread, right ?
https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...1&d=1677081138

And you don't hear in sport mode the fake/amplified sound anymore ?

I'm asking because most people who have tried in ID8 said they had to use the expert mode
(example: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1996298 )

Going to order an adapter to try it too.

I followed the directions in the first link. Now there is no difference in the cabin going from efficient to sport. With my windows down, I can still hear the exhaust flaps open. It definitely worked. Took literally 2 mins.

Found my ODB2 Ethernet from my older 435i and used iit with bimmercode.
Tried first the 1st (simple) method as described in p1 to turn ASD off. Went on a test drive, I didn’t hear any difference compared to before the coding. (In both comfort and sport ). Then did the coding in the expert mode (all ASD deactivated individually). Now I can definitely tell the difference. The sound (drone, fake burbles , fake upshift , etc) is no longer enabled in the speaker. Looks like ID8 ASD still requires going in the expert mode, at least in most 2023 M3s.

So weird. What software version are you on ?

Don’t remember the numbers but was the latest one last time I checked. I saw multiple reports of ASD that needed to be turned Off in the expert mode, in ID8 . Not an issue anyway, now at least I’m sure there is no generated sound in the speakers.

So I have ID8 and "disabled" ASD via Bimmercode in both options; standard AND expert mode. I have an exhaust valve controller independent of the ECU. If at idle when I push "on" the exhaust button in the center console (not the valve controller) I can faintly still hear the sound change which means to me the sound I'm hearing is fake...

I really don't think Bimmercode 100% turns ASD off. Has anyone else experienced this?

The only thing that is needed in bimmercode to 100% turn off ASD is to deactivate the activation code. You don’t need to touch any of the coding options in either standard or expert mode. If you haven’t done the activation code method you should go in and do that.

If you have a valve controller set to open and ASD off then the only thing the exhaust button should be doing is turning burbles on and off.

Yes, that's what I expected as well. The only thing the exhaust button should do is burbles on/off. I'll try resetting everything back and just using the basic deactivate option.
