Absolutely worth every penny. You never have to look down. Can you use the steering wheel controls to toggle between a lot of options, media, phone, nav. Get it. You won’t regret it.

That’s the thing, I love M iD8 and want to look down.

I've got iD7 without HUD. My car's been in service for a few days and my loaner car (also iD7) has HUD --- disappears unless you raise it high enough to be incredibly annoying. I'm clearly in the minority, but for me at least it's only slightly less annoying than lane departure warning/correction. Of course, a lot of folks wouldn't want their car without the cruise control rectangle, I'll drive something different when I want the car to drive for me. My preferences only of course.

The M is my first vehicle with a HUD. At first I didn't like it(distracting) and was about to turn it off. The more I drive the car, the more I get used to it and find it pretty useful. I'm a fan.

My G80 is my 3rd BMW with HUD. Obviously, I love it. I sure miss it when I travel and have to get a rental without HUD.

As with many others here, the HUD is far better than the one for ID7 and even larger screen. So when you are driving, you dont even have to look at the speedometer or when u r using navigation, the HUD shows all the turn by turn navigations. Unfortunately, if you are using Apple car play, the HUD doesnt show apple maps. One of the reason, I turned off my carplay and also you get 1 yr of free Sirius XM with the new car. Another perk is that this car is so fast that if you hit ur gas pedal hard to overtake, it easily goes to a 100mph and the only thing that makes me realize is the warning that I get on the HUD that flashes "Excessive Speed Warning". So, it keeps things in check too. So go for it !!!

Any idea if, when using Waze on CarPlay, Waze’s indications appear on the HUD? And Waze’s map on the cockpit with ID8?

I can tell that the carplay wont appear on the HUD. One of the reasons I dont do the carplay anymore. Plus the BMW maps are really stunning to see. Dont know about waze but I think its prob the same as BMW might be limiting access to the HUD for third party applications

Android Auto will show in the hud. It is one of the few benefits over CarPlay.

Mine stays the same in all driving modes. I’m on ID8. Do I need to change something? Is it supposed to show rpm’s as well as speed?

Fully agree with this. I also like it for making calls and checking how far I am before my next turn without having to look down

I love it and couldn’t purchase another car without it given the option.

I was referring to the difference between ID7 and ID8 HUD. My ID7 HUD is pretty small and only gives me the speed and the playlist when I scroll down. I think its about 2 inches wide vs the ID8 is prob 4 inches wide

I would absolutely add for $1100.

That's said, I'll contradict myself. I love ID8 and HUD - but I rarely use my HUD. It's almost invisible when I'm wearing polarized glasses.

If you were polarized sunglasses the HUD is worthless. You won't see a thing. I live in Florida and sunglasses are a must.

One more for non-polarized (Rx, even) sun glasses for the car.

I had both id7 and id8 and overall I just like id8 more. The screens and the graphics are really crisp and when I look. The HUD gives more info and the tech when you have M mode on looks really great. I like having the shift indicators right on the windshield when hustling 👍🏽

HUD is great, but only when there isn't any sunshine because when I have my sunglasses on I can't see it. I don't necessarily think it's worth it, although as part of the exec package (assuming you can't cherrypick the option) you get electric tailgate and maybe something else(?). The great thing now though is you can tell BMW to turn off the HUD so you don't have to navigate through 4 menu options like you had to on the F80 (unless operator error on my part with that car). The best thing about the HUD is keeping you from getting arrested - more aware of just how fast you're going.
