Don't hate these screens (don't like them either) but what I hate the most is the absence of physical buttons that seem to be part of any car introducing these big screens. Honestly, I thought the previous setup was the sweet spot between the two.

The i4 has SP18 vs the iX’s SP21 since the i4 derives from the normal 4 series. One way you can tell is the drive recorder, where the iX can do +- 40 second recordings vs the i4’s +- 20 second, but I don’t know if OP has it (or even if the G80s have it?)

Edit: Augmented Reality view is also an iX SP21 (MGU21) exclusive thing, OP can maybe try that.

Bit of a shame then that you get an old version right from the start, even if the screen itself looks flashy

. It might not be too much of a problem now, but I can imagine some features and updates being SP21 exclusive in future.

If I can be honest about this, I have to be honest about getting old.

I stopped watching Transformers after the first movie. Not because of the plot, or the actors, or my lack of interest in Transformers (I grew up watching the orig. cartoon series). It was simply because the graphics were just too busy for my brain to absorb all the details coming in to my eyes.

The same with these displays.

If there was a setting for VINTAGE 1980 dash (I don't know, like a '84 Mits. Starion), I'd be all over it.

I have a hard time chasing the rpm info in these cars, interpolate temperatures numbers base on miniature graphics, and find the odometer (which in most cars is a static reading).
And don't get me going with the LC

Other than that, this new display looks beautiful!

Yeah, only way for OP to check is likely to see if they can get the augmented reality navigation working. The 2 series AT also has SP21/MGU21 as well and has that.

How does the screen change when you're in M sport or a custom M mode?

Also, any chance you can show what CarPlay looks like?

I'm really on the fence with getting a '23 G80, honestly the screen is a lot. It looks amazing, but I'm used to my E90 and now F80 which is analog in almost every way inside.

I'm the same. I'm a buttons/knobs over touch screen.

I'm also used to a very spartan interface in my previous M cars.

This looks amazing, but it's a lot to take in and I think I'd have my screen off most of the time if I had the G80.

Only 20 seconds before and after an event is pretty abysmal. I was hoping the M3 would get a longer record buffer with id8. Especially when some competitors are doing dvr style recordings to an SD card (with more camera angles, too!).

Being in an accident is hectic, and if the auto-record doesn't trigger that 20 seconds before save request is an extremely short window.

Fully agree. Much easier to see everything when it is on a single plane of vision vs. having to look directly ahead for some stuff and off to the side and down for other stuff. Prefer the BMW solution more. Also I find the MB ambient lighting truly excessive and distracting . G8x has nicer overall interior in terms of quality and execution.

Or just leave in Track mode then only 1 screen to look at.

The instrument cluster gauge graphics I prefer from iD7 rather then iD8.

I heard that on the 2023 M3, drive recorder now does 30 seconds before and after, but can only store 8 clips before overwriting compared to 10

HUD / dash etc seems good. But I can't understand why they removed the physical buttons. Previously one clic, now 3 or 4. Crazy.
